General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI found a fake FB page with a bunch of fake "people" commenting on it. The Russians are starting
again and I would love it others went here and checked some of the accounts out to report if you see fake ones.
A couple of people from my high school posted from this account called, "Prepare to take America back" The posts are so absurd that they reminded me of the bullshit that was going around before the 2016 election.
I think we, as Democrats and people who want to spread truth must fight these "people" when we see them so I am posting the link. I already reported this page and some of the "people" who commented. It is easy to see the fake "people" because their pages just have several of the same pictures, no friends and just some changing of the profile pictures to make it look like their is activity. (I just reported a "Joe Whiskey" for example)
These trolls are like ants at a picnic. They start and spread so fast and before you know it your entire meal is destroyed. And by meal I mean election and hence country.

(58,785 posts)This from NBC News is not up to date, but very indicative:
Since Gabbard announced her intention to run on Jan. 11, there have been at least 20 Gabbard stories on three major Moscow-based English-language websites affiliated with or supportive of the Russian government: RT, the Russian-owned TV outlet; Sputnik News, a radio outlet; and Russia Insider, a blog that experts say closely follows the Kremlin line. The CIA has called RT and Sputnik part of "Russia's state-run propaganda machine."
All three sites celebrated Gabbard's announcement, defended her positions on Russia and her 2017 meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, and attacked those who have suggested she is a pawn for Moscow. The coverage devoted to Gabbard, both in news and commentary, exceeds that afforded to any of the declared or rumored Democratic candidates despite Gabbard's lack of voter recognition. ...
"Her promulgation of positions compatible with Russian geo strategic interests can help them mainstream such discussion in the [Democratic] party," said Alex Stamos, former chief security officer at Facebook and now an NBC News analyst. Gabbard, said Stamos, helps them with all their "lines of attack."

(58,785 posts)They don't just really need to defeat Democrats, they MUST. Losing this one won't just cost them many fortunes. It's a potentially existential point for some of Russia's oligarchs, and certainly for Putin and Russia's hegemonic ambitions.

(82,849 posts)Click through on their Facebook page link. You will see their background picture and profile picture and off to the right is a bar with the "Follow" and "Message" buttons, then a third ... button. Click on the dot-dot-dot button a two options appear: "Find Support or Report Profile" and "Block." Under the "Find Support" option, there are six choices for reporting the profile to the Facebook gods. Choose the appropriate one and hit the blue "Send" button.
I've not noticed any significant action, but just doing that is kind of satisfying, and who can say? You might actually deactivate a bot account.

(32,084 posts)I have seen it on a regular basis all over social media since the 2016 election. They have even infested the Canadian and British media sites. I'm glad you reported it, and I hope everyone else does the same whenever they see that kind of thing. Just have to hope Facebook (and Twitter...) does something about it.

(42,770 posts)The election, Cruz started dumping smears on Beto. And he plateaued. I saw it first hand..these low info bigots here...read the stuff like its gospel, them pass it, and it spreads like wildfire.
I dont see any evidence that our party is aware or is combatting this issue at all. If it is recognized, then maybe they can find a way to insert tech savvy people to help. They have lists they advertise the smears to...why cant we get the same lists? And immediately respond with counter-ads? At least its worth a shot. Otherwise it will get worse.
