WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested Thursday morning on a single charge of conspiring to hack a government computer. The charge was filed last year by the Department of Justice, and stems from his involvement in a 2010 scheme to help Chelsea Manning break a password to a Department of Defense computer. Assanges lawyer called the arrest an unprecedented effort by the United States seeking to extradite a foreign journalist to face criminal charges for publishing truthful information.
Assanges penchant for hacking information persisted well beyond 2010. During the 2016 presidential campaign, WikiLeaks released a trove of emails hacked from the Democratic National Committee, to the delight of then-candidate Trump. When asked about Assanges arrest on Thursday, though, Trump pretended like hed barely heard of the organization.
I know nothing about WikiLeaks, he said. Its not my thing. I know there is something having to do with Julian Assange. Ive been seeing whats happening with Assange. That would be a determination mostly by the attorney general, who is doing an excellent job. Hell be making a determination. I know nothing about him. Its not my deal in life.

The question about whether Trumps love for the organization has endured is in reference to a comment the president made at a 2016 campaign rally after WikiLeaks released the bounty of hacked Democratic emails. Oh, we love WikiLeaks, Trump said, praising the release of the stolen materials.
It was only one of several occasions Trump commended WikiLeaks during the campaign. He mentioned it 141 times in the last month of the campaign alone as he sought to use the hacked emails to cast Hillary Clintons campaign in an unflattering light. WikiLeaks is unbelievable, he said at one rally.

(21,966 posts)that he mentioned Wikileaks 141 times in a single month on the campaign trail just three years ago. He may have no recollection of it.
Or hes just lying.
The former is probably a more disturbing scenario.

(1,588 posts)He's trolling everyone. He knows no one will call him on it or have the proof to confront him with it. He's laughing his ass off because the press "respects the office of the President" and he doesn't. He can say anything he wants and know no one will call him on it because he ALWAYS gets last word. That's the way it works.

(58,706 posts)1. They go after Assange, because he and Wikileaks aren't very popular.
2. They get their conviction.
3. Spend a few weeks opining on on how Wikileaks and Assange represent "bad, evil press"
4. Start going after CNN, MSNBC, etc as "bad" media with legal hassles and indictments
5. Shut down any opposition press
I know, (But is it really all that unbelievable?)

(10,048 posts)I would not be surprised if Trump hasn't already made a deal with Assange. Assange blames it all on Obama and/or Clinton and Trump will pardon hm and give him the Medal of Honor.

(1,588 posts)Short term memory loss - unable to remember something only 2 and half years ago.
Difficulty communicating or finding words -continually using the word oranges when he meant origins.
Difficulty handling complex tasks - Unable to close an umbrella or drink a bottle of water without using two hands.
Confusion and disorientation - Rambling press conference last week in San Antonio where he was talking about trucks and 5th Avenue and it being 3 miles and looking like 500 miles that it was so bad Fox News had to cut away from it.
That's all I can think of...
