I watch Fux News so you don't have to. And I can tell you that I've never seen that slimy weasel Sean Hannity so rattled as he was on his show tonight. You could see the panic in his eyes, after Assange's arrest.
He screeched and squawked his way though his usual "what-about-Hillary" monologue, I'll give him credit for that. But he was visibly shaking, gasping for breath, and clearly on the verge of a panic.
No doubt he's bagged after spending the whole day scrubbing his tweets about Julian Assange being a wrongly accused hero of journalism. But he knows he's going to be walking a tight rope for the next few months. He went out of his way to paint Assange as a hero when all he was doing was leaking embarrassing DNC email, and hoped nobody would remember that Assange ALSO leaked Pentagon intelligence that got American soldiers and allies killed. But, unfortunately for Hannity, that's what they're going to charge Assange with FIRST. For the next few months the news media is going to be talking about all the military secrets Manning and Assange leaked, with the help of the Russians; while Hannity twists himself into a pretzel trying to convince his flat-headed, knuckle-dragging viewers that Assange should still be believed when he says he has nothing to do with Russian Intelligence. Good luck with that, dipshit.
COMMENCE WITH THE POPCORN!

Officials may be overstating the danger from WikiLeaks
WASHINGTON American officials in recent days have warned repeatedly that the release of documents by WikiLeaks could put people's lives in danger.
But despite similar warnings ahead of the previous two massive releases of classified U.S. intelligence reports by the website, U.S. officials concede that they have no evidence to date that the documents led to anyone's death.
Before Sunday's release, news organizations given access to the documents and WikiLeaks took the greatest care to date to ensure no one would be put in danger. In statements accompanying stories about the documents, several newspapers said they voluntarily withheld information and that they cooperated with the State Department and the Obama administration to ensure nothing released could endanger lives or national security.
The newspapers "established lists in common of people to protect, notably in countries ruled by dictators, controlled by criminals or at war," according to an account by Le Monde, a French newspaper that was among the five news organizations that were given access to the documents. "All the identities of people the journalists believed would be threatened were redacted," the newspaper said in what would be an unprecedented act of self censorship by journalists toward government documents.

Hannity reminds me of the IRS official who is denying Trump tax returns. He knows he is going against the law. His hands were shaking so bad. He had a choice go against the law or defy Trump and get fired.
Nixon pulled much of this same stuff.

(7,142 posts)the indictment is one charge, for helping Manning crack a code to get into government files. If Assange is extradicted to the US and there is only that one charge, we can't add additional charges. Whatever we are going to charge for we must charge him before he is extradicted because of language in a treaty we signed with Britain.
Assange is free to publish stolen material as long as he had no hand in stealing them.
Also, it may not be that Hannity is afraid of being implicated with Assange, there may be a more sinister event at play. Assange may be the person that the right is using to limit freedom of the press. Don't get me wrong, if Assange helped Manning crack the code to steal classified information, he needs to be prosecuted. We need to be careful how the evil Trump administration handles this case, will they put restrictions on the press that are not lawful?
Great post

(29,322 posts)Can Julian Assange be charged with additional offences once he has been extradited to the United States?
Normal practice is that anyone extradited can only be prosecuted in the country that sought them for the offences specified on the extradition indictment. That restriction is known as the rule of specialty.

(1,201 posts)refuse to hold republicans presidents accountable. Every repub president since Eisenhouer committed acts of treason to get elected as we now know thanks to FOIR documents and recordings. I am fearful we will lose the House again if Pelosi refuses to impeach Trump like she did Bush. I am also fearful that in this time of planetary survival where bold action is necessary for our survival we run another status quo, don't rock the boat moderate with years of baggage and lose to Trump again for being too fearful to stand up for our principles or worse get a moderate elected who wants to wait on bold action while our planet is destroyed. We need a progressive agenda bold enough to ensure both our economic freedom and our survival. We must impeach now before Trump attempts a coup. He must be exposed and held accountable in the eyes of the public as an example to future Bushes they are not above the law. Now...before it's too late and dems are blamed again.

(32,748 posts)... however it doesn't explain Sean Hannity's connection or possible guilt. I think the authorities need to examine Assange's computers, emails, and other electronics and see what communications have gone between Assange and Hannity. Kick over that rock, and the real collusion picture will take shape.

(9,090 posts)at least 2008 when limbaugh witheld his support until minutes after mccain bit the bullet and picked palin VP - before social media got going. maybe cohen's relationship to hannity had to do with buying talk radio and not mistresses.
maybe assange was involved in passing russia-hacked east anglia emails so limbaugh/hannity could create "climategate" in time to derail obama at copenhagen.
limbaugh is neighbor and friend of trump and not only basically got him through the primaries with daily excuses as well as attacks on rubio and bush, he is still leading the attack on the 'deep state' for trump - which includes regular calls for investigating the investigators and the 'spy' leaders - obama and clinton.
trump studied talk radio in 2014 (sam nunberg says he listened to 1000s of hours of it for trump), the same year a russian troll said he "got a list of topics to write about" and the same year the indicted russians were traveling the country.
stone is a regular hand with talk radio, using it in 2000 in florida to derail the recounts. credico - assange contact, and corsi are also talk radio 'operators'.
if assange links russia with rw media that would include talk radio, the only real advantage trump has - the secret advantage.

(11,276 posts)what they did was expose WAR CRIMES where our American forces were killing emergency medical personnel, journalists, and other first responders, deliberately. Essentially laying traps and then killing non-combatants.
Whatever ever else Assange is guilty of, we mustn't let that act of very important journalism, whistle-blowing, and humanity be smeared. That was an appropriate, vital act of holding the powerful to account.
Glad Hannity is sweating, though.

(884 posts)And, for that matter, your consciously broad observation. Especially in difficult times such as these, we desperately need people to be on their toes and evaluating the entire picture, lest the powers that be succeed in manipulating us with pseudo-truth, as we should all know full well that they will attempt to do.
I, for one, greatly appreciate your neutral arbitration of justice in this matter.

(49 posts)The only problem is that their audience continues to swallow their lies... that's all they need to concentrate on. It's much too convenient for us to sit back with our "popcorn" and be all cavalier about what justice/karma we feel they deserve. Where is it ? Has anyone seen anything substantial they need to be worried about that they haven't so far been able to get away with ?
The truth is their propaganda is FULLY effective is because it takes so little effort to twist the truth to their mouth breather base. Until we can actually find a way to put a truly proactive mirror in front of their lies, most of those people will never see their own ugliness and they will always be the proverbial popcorn kernels we are left picking form our proverbial teeth. Honestly... a great deal of them admire how ugly they are and don't care, so it's not just ignorance, it's willful stupidity.
It's no longer a game of sitting back and waiting for justice to come...we'll never get it that way. We have to take the fight to them. Where are our whistle blowers, where are our people willing to do what Assange did, for our reasons. Us seeing their lies clearly is one thing, but the willingness of their audience to never question them is our worst problem. Yeah ...Hannity was in panic mode, but what his audience got out of it was his counter accusations and to them those are surely the only things that matter, and they fall deeper into the Fox news abyss.

Trump denies, despite evidence, he never heard of WikiLeaks, and Hannity deletes all his tweets.
Guilty men, doing guilty things? The intellectual convolutions happening in those brains is interesting, and amazing, to watch. Like gamblers who backed the wrong horse, realise it, then go into total denial they backed a loser.
As a fellow Australian (Assange is from Townsville, Queensland, Australia) I thought he was a bit of an anti establishment hero. Then he went and hid in the Ecuadorian embassy. The action of a guilty person.
And for how many years? Self imposed imprisonment? You have to wonder about the state of his mental health after all this time.
But yes, he is out in the open now. Let justice take it's course!
