ALSO, Republicans promote sexual & reproductive slavery for women and they don't give a damn if they are murdered or mutilated either (VAWA and FGM)
MORE evidence. The opposite of love is not hate. It is INDIFFERENCE. In this case, complete INDIFFERENCE to the humanity of female humans. Females in this World have no clue how much males just really don't care about them (in general):

The Republicans in congress act like they are anti women because their religious base oppose laws giving women control of their reproductive lives. But even the repubs in congress and the religious right do not comprise most men. In general men support women. The people you talk about are the minority.
Telling the truth is what we want trump to do. We should too.
So many OPs like this are over dramatic for some reason. My guess is they get a lot of replies that way.

We are a little enraged about it. And fearful.
If doctors were cutting off penises of young boys at behest of their parents, would the administration take a position not to prosecute? FGM is not circumcision.
This OP has lots of interesting content. For example, I had never thought to make a connection between the forced breeding of slave women as livestock and abortion laws. Come to think of it, we werent really taught that forced breeding was a thing slaves came in slave ships and picked cotton in the field. But forced breeding? That is a great topic to illuminate; it is a blind spot in how we are educated about slavery. How many of the male GOP leaders pushing against abortion come from a line of slaveholding men who PROFITED FROM the rape and intentional forced breeding of enslaved women?
Do most men love women? Yes, maybe most at certain ages. But theres an 18 year old boy in San Antonio Texas who just murdered his own mother this week. And 171 republicans in Congress refuse to support women in getting guns out of the hands of their abusive partners. Women are killed every day by men who supposedly loved them. Sex trafficking is a thing that too many powerful men seem to patronize. And women making 80 cents on the dollar might be spending an extra $100 a year on birth control not to mention expensive hygiene products. Dont get me started on the already-born men who selfishly want to save themselves money on health insurance by carving out pregnancy benefits. Selfishness is an epidemic.
The men I know are mostly loving, worthwhile people. But blind spots have a way of multiplying. And many men whose power has ascended the Republicans in Washington and in state legislatures are one big walking blind spot.
I miss one powerful man who I know loved women. Barack Obama. Too many others grow up with hate, resentment, or indifference in their hearts.
Dont feel attacked by a broad brush. Pick up a brush and help us. We need allies. We need the message to get out. We need these clueless and twisted descendants of slaveowners to be disempowered and their electorate to wake the hell up.

(9,775 posts)There are men who cannot control their MENTAL and PHYSICAL penis.
Cannot say for sure its only men, but even Im very dubious of what I just typed.
Men try to control womens bodies in any way, almost any scenario. Penis envy? I do believe men have vagina envy.

(9,257 posts)And our society and legal system has never required them to control their own bodies.
It's a unique male privilege that they get to pawn responsibility for their own (mis)behavior (and the consequences of it) off onto women and girls, making females responsible for male behavior (which is impossible since the only people who can possibly control male behavior are males themselves). But they're allowed to make women and girls responsible anyway. And they're allowed to enslave women and girls sexually & reproductively, as well as incriminate, mutilate or murder them for daring to even try to control their own bodies.
Men who try to control what women do with their bodies do it because they don't want to be responsible for controlling their own -- which is the only one they realistically can or should control. Contrary to popular belief, women and girls can't control male bodies or behavior. Women and girls CAN control their own bodies and behavior -- but they're severely punished when they try. And -- when they don't.
The guys -- well they can pretty much do whatever they want.

(11,576 posts)To paraphrase, how can any society ever advance, in a meaningful way, if they are determined to repress over half of their population? Sadly, there are too many men who love maintaining women as a permanent servant class. It will take women. and the men who truly care about them, continuing to organize and unite in the struggle for fairness and equality.

(49 posts)Fascist religious zealots like these only ever want more for themselves and, less for everyone they think are less than themselves. The fact that this texas bill was even allowed to be proposed without some sort of ethics/procedural rules violation in the texan state congress is what is truly mind numbing.
There is an active cabal of these wanna be "Republic of Gilead" old testament style biblical christians in every political office of power in the country. If fiction like A Handmaid's Tale becomes a reality is not the question, only when and how soon.

(4,986 posts)Texan here, aghast at the latest women hating policies from the GOP. They have lost their damn minds. I'm frequently in deep red areas of Texas, and have some kind of influence among my conservative family members. I bring up politics about once a quarter with each, any more often and I'd lose my mind. I don't shut away from abortion discussion, because of some false need to respect religious views. It ain't about religion folks, it's just plain logic.
I use two lines of reasoning when explaining why pro choice is not pro abortion:
1) I have used the phrase, "it is because I am for more life that I am pro choice". Depending on the person, I might say, I'm pro choice, because I'm pro life (this cause great, in the moment confusion... Then they might listen). Then I quickly follow with, if the goal is to for a society to have fewer abortions, then it needs to remain safe and legal. Then I say something like if your goal is to shame women and increase abortion rates, then take away women's healthcare including contraception and legal abortion. Then, in the air, I draw the chart of the rate starting at 1973, steep climb to 1980, then gradual slope to the early nineties. I explain that the spike in the rate after Roe v Wade was likely due to underreporting. Then I might go on to question why abortion rates are the same or higher in countries where it is illegal.
2) Here's my less than scientific point that'll make people chuckle: All else being equal, if men birthed babies, getting an abortion would be as easy as shopping at a Sam's club.
New material: I recently met a woman who had have a medically necessary abortion in the early 1950s. It saved her life as she battled an illness. She would go on to have three kids and seven grandchildren. Stunned me. Incenses me that men in some marbled building would have the gall to wedge themselves between a woman and her doctor.
Tell your right wing family members why you are pro choice. Don't argue about religion, just try to get some logic and information to them. I think just getting any question into their mind is helpful, because there's so much bad information that has them trapped. Makes me so mad we even have to have this debate again.
