Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) are planning to meet in the near future to discuss a bipartisan infrastructure package, a White House spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
The President and Speaker did speak last week and have agreed to meet soon to discuss working together on infrastructure, White House Deputy press secretary Judd Deere told the publication. The President wants a bipartisan infrastructure package that rebuilds crumbling infrastructure, invests in the projects and industries of tomorrow, and promotes permitting efficiency.
Pelosi said at a recent Democratic retreat that she thinks President Trump would be receptive to an infrastructure package of between $1 trillion and $2 trillion.
Im optimistic. Left to his own devices, I think the president would be agreeable to these things, she told reporters. It has to be $1 trillion; Id like it to be closer to $2 trillion.

Think something will get done or do you think that Trump is so butthurt that he'll sabotage the whole meeting and say he won?

(58,662 posts)That sounds like Repub-speak for de-regulating and privatizing.
I trust Nancy, but I hope she's careful. Trump's interest in infrastructure doesn't go much deeper than wall street bankers and hedge fund speculators padding their investments. I don't care how he brags about being a "builder." He's a money grubbing asshole.
We need to actually get physical work done, not pump up paper fortunes on Wall Street.

(4,066 posts)The fact she's throwing out a number so soon makes me think she has a plan already. She's been pretty much in charge so far. If only Mitch McConnell would have a completely debilitating stroke or heart failure. Things might go better. Yes, McConnell is a person on whom I do, for real, wish death or 100% disability.

Expect Fat Donnie to try to include his ego wall in the final appropriation, threatening to sabotage the whole thing if he doesn't get his way.

(15,286 posts)Trump will agree with pretty much whatever Pelosi puts forward.
They'll have a press conference and he will blab about whatever happened during their meeting being so great and that he is the greatest deal-maker ever.
FoxNews will get up in arms about "spending" and "deficit" and mock Trump for being taken to the cleaners by Pelosi et al.
Trump will reneg on everything he just agreed to with Pelosi.
End of story.
