Trump's 2020 Campaign Raises Over $30 Million in First Quarter

President Trump raised more than $30 million for his re-election in the first three months of 2019 and now sits atop more than $40 million, his campaign said on Sunday.

Mr. Trump’s campaign — which has set an ambitious $1 billion goal for the 2020 race — launched an aggressive fund-raising push earlier than his predecessors. The campaign has already installed a headquarters in Northern Virginia and is combining a push for both big donations and small contributions online.

Nearly 99 percent of the donations in the first quarter were for $200 or less, according to the campaign, with an average contribution of just over $34.

Some Democrats are concerned that Mr. Trump will spend the next year amassing a war chest as Democrats fight among themselves in a primary now featuring nearly 20 candidates. Mr. Trump’s $30 million haul is about the size of what Senators Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris — the top two Democratic fund-raisers so far in the 2020 field — raised combined in the first quarter.

But also not great news. I’m shocked at the average donation size. I wonder how they would score a $50/day donation until someone hits the annual maximum.

At the moment our resources are scattered all over the place. After we winnow it down to one candidate, he or she will be the subject of continual money bombs. I'm not concerned - especially since Don has been using his donations to pay his legal bills.

I don't doubt he raised $30 million. I do doubt that most of them came in increments of $200 or less. That's unless they're giving it in the name of all of their bots. This reeks, like everything else about him.

If you add up the money raised by all the candidates that the Dems have - I'm sure it would be equal to or more than what Trump raised running as the only Repug candidate.

The MSM is making it like there is no money out there for the Dems to win in Nov 2020. That money is spread over almost 20 candidates. Once the nominee for the Dems is identified - there will be plenty of money there for the Dem nominee to compete with Trump.

Not to worry.

all the other candidates will realize the importance, and contribute their left over dollars to the nominee. this election is a little more important than saving for their next run...

I'm sure the lawyers can figure out a legal way to do it.

That is what lawyers are for, isn't it?

maybe, maybe not...
