for me. I kept going back and spending more and more time there. I felt a sense of peace that transcended any religious or spiritual symbolism. It was beautiful. It was a refuge. It was history. I hope it isn't gone.

It's sad to see this beautiful structure being destroyed.

Exquisite architecture and stained glass, a place that made you gasp in genuine awe, regardless of your religious inclination. The idea that all of that has been lost, not to mention the archives and works of art, is mind-boggling.

This is a loss for Paris, for France, for the entire world. The structure can be rebuilt but never replaced by virtue of its age, a 12th century monument that has withstood all manner of threats. Until now.

It must be utterly shocking for Parisians watching this from the ground. During Holy Week, too.

A piece of great beauty, snuffed out. How depressing! And I can't get over the sense that we're watching the world burn in those flames.

I guess it is a good reminder: even the most iconic structures and places can be ravaged. Most definitely, see them while you can. Nothing is immune.
