“Extinction Rebellion (abbreviated as XR) is a socio-political movement which intends to utilise nonviolent resistance to avert climate breakdown, halt biodiversity loss, and minimise the risk of human extinction and ecological collapse.[1][3]

Extinction Rebellion was established in the United Kingdom in May 2018 with about one hundred academics signing a call to action in support in October 2018,[4] and launched at the end of October by Roger Hallam, Gail Bradbrook, Simon Bramwell, and other activists from the campaign group Rising Up![5] In November 2018 various acts of civil disobedience were carried out in London.[6] A large number of activists in the movement have pledged to be arrested and go to prison,[7] similar to the mass arrest tactics of the Committee of 100 in 1961.

Citing inspiration from grassroots movements such as Occupy, Gandhi’s independence movement, the suffragettes, and Martin Luther King and others in the civil rights movement, Extinction Rebellion wants to rally support worldwide around a common sense of urgency to tackle climate breakdown.[8][6]“

Our Story
On 31st October 2018, we assembled on Parliament Square in London to announce a Declaration of Rebellion against the UK Government. We were expecting a couple of hundred people. Instead, 1500 came to participate in peaceful civil disobedience. The energy was contagious! The next few weeks were a whirlwind. Six thousand of us converged on London to peacefully block five major bridges across the Thames. We planted trees in the middle of Parliament Square, and dug a hole there to bury a coffin representing our future. We super-glued ourselves to the gates of Buckingham Palace as we read a letter to the Queen. Our actions generated huge national and international publicity and, as news spread, our ideas connected with tens of thousands of people around the world. The XR project was resonating with a deeply felt need for community and solidarity. “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” we chanted! Dozens of countries now have groups springing up, from the Solomon Islands to Australia, from Spain to South Africa, the US to India.

So what’s next? We are working relentlessly, building our movement in preparation for phase two, an international rebellion that will begin on 15th April 2019. So come and join us. Rebel for life. For the planet. For our children’s children’s futures. There is so much work to be done.

As Trump’s Climate Denial Continues, A Global Rebellion Spreads

The footage and ignorance of the so-called leader of the free world, is sometimes painful to watch.
On his visit to California over the weekend to see the total devastation caused by the wildfires and where just under a thousand people are still unaccounted for, a bumbling President Trump said that he was going to come up with “some solutions to a problem that is a very, very big problem.” He added that, “we don’t really have a choice. We have to get it done”.

“When asked specifically about climate change being a factor in the fires, Trump said: “We will be looking at everything” before adding that “land management and forest management is really what you mean. We are gong to be looking at every factor. We are going to get to the bottom of it… we are going to come up with some very good solutions… the right conclusion here is to get these forest fires to stop because I really think there is a way of doing that.”

It would be easy for Trump to listen to any of the climate scientists who have been warning for years about the dangers of burning fossil fuels, but he won’t. His ignorance is startling. His addiction to fossil fuels total.”
