FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) With hundreds of human cases of the West Nile Virus being reported across Texas and more than a dozen related deaths in North Texas it seems some people are overreacting and calling 911 when theyre bitten by a mosquito.
...in the absence of any symptoms of West Nile then a simple mosquito bite is really not a reason for someone to call 911, said Matt Zavadsky, public affairs director for MedStar Emergency Medical Services.
...
So our only option at that point is to send an ambulance to that call which takes that emergency resource out of the system to respond to the motor vehicle accidents, the heart attacks while we assess that mosquito bite on scene and then have the patient sign some paperwork for us, to allow us to leave, Zavadsky explained...

Wait until someone uses a shotgun to kill the little buggers.

as opposed to getting them all freaked out enough to call 911 for every mosquito bite...

(28,873 posts)3. The mosquito crazy is here.
I've been getting mosquito bites nonstop lately;
they're even in the house.
I just let em be. The bites raise a temporary bump
and itch a bit, but that doesn't last long and doesn't
leave any marks or scarring like those other bites I
get that turn red and really hurt and itch for days.
Those are gone for now, so mosquito bites don't
really seem like much. How's that for perspective.
Sure hope I don't get West Nile, though. I figure if
I haven't already gotten it by now, then that would
be pretty much of a real miracle. I just assume I've
developed immunity or something.
