(16,230 posts)I'm not defending Akin, but believe me, there were neanderthals in Congress in '69 too. Probably more than today. Hell, Nixon was in the White House when the Eagle landed. We were mired in Vietnam. Every single astronaut was a white male. Don't romanticize 1969.

Stem cell research, IMO, is just as important as space research, even though I fell in love with astronomy as a child.

(16,230 posts)I watched the Moon landing. I cried last night. I just think that, as bad as things seem today, the idea that they were somehow better in 1969 is just wrong.
