'Unprecedented' surge of online extremism after Christchurch
Even the horrific Norway attacks by Anders Breivik didnt amass this level of universal approval by the far-right.
The Christchurch terrorist attack has prompted an unprecedented surge in online activity by white supremacists as well as a call by a group with Islamic State links for attacks on Australians travelling in Indonesia, according to ongoing analysis by an American intelligence firm.
According to Rita Katz, the director of the SITE Intelligence Group, the wave of online support that the Christchurch attack continues to attract is unlike the response to any other right-wing attack.
Attacks always spark reactions from different extremist communities, but when it comes to the far right, there was never anything like the response to the Christchurch attack, she told The Sun-Herald.
His target, deadly execution, and his live streaming of the event fuelled these communities unprecedented response. The reactions were like nothing weve ever seen thus far from the far-right across the globe, she said.

Being a war baby, I find all this so sad. Maybe I'm just too old for this sh*t.

Robert Paxton says that fascism is "a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victimhood
and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion".[41]
Racism was a key feature of German fascism, as they made the Holocaust a high priority. According to the historiography of genocide, "In dealing with the Holocaust, it is the consensus of historians that Nazi Germany targeted Jews as a race, not as a religious group

(21,646 posts)RW racist nationalist everywhere and this adoration of violence is a sign of facism
From the link
A month after his attack, those in the far-right still talk online about their desire to Make Brenton Proud by committing acts of violence and share endearing artwork of him. Many of these posts and images likewise incite for violence against Muslims.
Ms Katz said white supremacists have discussed the lesson of Christchurch as being that accelerationism works. Accelerationism in this context meaning violent, retaliation-sparking attacks like Tarrants, she said.
But as far as Trump ? he is just one part of the current RW world wide wave occurring.
His US targeted bans were by nation. So he decided which had the most bad people and his distinction was by borders, so then technically no , his target was all Syrians as those others for example , even Christian nationals .
However, the ban has been considered a de facto ban on Muslims
Also the targeted Syrian nationals may not identify as Arabs at all, regardless of their faith, but yes perhaps the words may be interchangeable for people like Trump

(2,224 posts)Support for Conservative values is on the rise all over the world. Duterte, Bolsonaro, Netanyahu and others wouldn't have been elected if it wasn't true. Their hate for political correctness, Feminism, lgbt, and diversity is at an all time high. They won't stop escalating things until they finally tear down civilized society and regress it back to the good ol days.
The Alt Right is just as big of a threat as the Russian Hackers. We need to stop them NOW!

(58,785 posts)and grow antagonistic negativism against "the elites," usually whatever government is in power.
After they get that power, though, the form their replacement government takes isn't necessarily what they lead their followers to believe. Whether the leaders are spouting right or left wing rhetoric, that is always power of the people. But there's never any fine print to the rhetoric, and those caught up in the antagonism of these movements and belief in their leaders wouldn't bother to look for it if there was.
The primary election of populist leader Trump was powered by hostility toward the Republican leadership and the new wealthy classes they serve, but in the general election against Democrats right-wing populists were joined by left-wing populists. And look what they all got for it.
So far. Dangerous times for democracy.
