The Sri Lanka attack is bigger than anything LTTE ever attempted

At least 8 near-simultaneous targets, some of them very high security (the hotels in particular are not easy to get into). I absolutely love Sri Lanka and this story is heartbreaking.

The Christian and Muslim populations are extreme minorities on the island, and throughout the civil war were mostly busy keeping their heads down and out of the way (there's also an extremely marginalized indigenous population that nobody ever remembers). I hate to see a new and different chapter of violence opening like this (I say "opening"; there were attacks on mosques last spring). Ugh.

Bit of trivia: the "suicide vest" was invented in Sri Lanka.
