On Racism, Rev. Wright and Birtherism and the American Mainstream Media
Yesterday, it just dawned on me the absolute lack of journalistic integrity our American mainstream media has with regard to political outrage and discourse.
Rewind back to 2008 Democratic primaries when President Obama had to give a full blown speech on race at Constitution Hall because his poll numbers were declining due to the release and replay of the Rev. Wright videos (week after week of coverage in the mainstream media).
No major media outlet was exempt from replaying these videos over and over -- MSNBC, Fox, CNN, CBS, ABC ... what have you. Every one of them ran those videos week after week until they compelled a full-blown speech on race from then candidate Obama.
Fast forward four years in this general election, and Mitt Romney makes a joke stoked in racism/birtherism, and there is a virtual blackout by our media on calling Mitt Romney to the carpet on his statements about "no one questioning where he and his wife were born."
Does anyone else find this odd? Is this just me?
How can, on one hand, one candidate be compelled to make a speech on race stemming from statements that he did not make, while another candidate makes what is admittedly a racist comment against the current sitting President, and our fourth estate not compel the same?
Careful, MSM ... your sheets are showing.
