Impeachment discussions and Trump base

I always wonder why, in every discussion about whether the Democrats should pursue impeachment, they always talk about how it will affect the Trump base. Why should our actions be based on HIS base? There are probably DOUBLE the people who are NOT members of Trump's base. Why should we let this tail wag the dog? By making your case against impeachment based on Trump's base, you are letting them control your actions.

They must impeach. Not having impeachment hearings will be destructive to the morale of our base.

although that's more of a cop out than anything else.

More likely, it's just a talking point to use up airtime when they have nothing else to say.
