last year and has recovered fully after extensive treatment. Here is her statement on the matter:
I look forward to having many more years to enjoy my family, friends and to serve our community and nation. I now intend to be an even more vigorous advocate and supporter for cancer research and improved care. Earlier this year, I introduced legislation to support research for triple-negative breast cancer. I would like to take this opportunity to urge all women to learn about this disease and participate in preventative measures so that you can detect it early and increase your odds of survival. We can and will beat this disease. I join the many women, men, organizations and the healthcare community who are working to support all of those who continue to fight to survive cancer every day.
Thank you for your concern and your support. This is just one more battle that I had to win and my strength is renewed. I especially want to thank my family for all of their support. I know my purpose -- it is to use this challenge as an inspiration for the work that God calls me to do.

(135,425 posts)To be perfectly transparent, I know full well she isn't the easiest person to get along with on the Hill--she is demanding of excellence and she doesn't take NO or CAN'T for an answer. She also doesn't accept slip-shod performance.
Her same behavior, coming out of a male Congressman, would be called "forceful" and "decisive" and "bold, true leadership." Because she's a woman she sometimes gets called pejorative names, because she's not "fluffy" and "sweet" enough to suit some.
I think she's the bee's knees, though--if I needed a defender and had my pick of Congress, she'd be in my Top Ten list!

(135,425 posts)The story at the link is that a conservative critic offered up a prayer of thanksgiving for her recovery. Of course, if you scroll down it's obvious that the newspaper comment moderator has been busy with the number of comments that were deleted--eh, it's TX.
