A Georgia man who kept a teenage girl suffering from Asperger's in captivity for more than a year, denying her food and subjecting her to water torture will be spared prison but will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Michael Wysolovski, 33, from Georgia, on Thursday pleaded guilty to first-degree cruelty to children and interstate interference with custody.
Police said Hailey Burns, then aged 17, went missing from her Charlotte, North Carolina, home in May 2016. She was found 225 miles away in Wysolovki's home in Duluth 56 weeks later.
--------
Assistant District Attorney Michael DeTardo told Atlanta Journal Constitution that he had consulted the victim and her family before signing off on the plea deal.
He explained that Burns and Wysolovski agreed to enter a BDSM-type relationship where participants simulate non-consensual sex acts, but over time the man violated the boundaries of their agreement by subjecting Burns to violence against her wishes.
Because of the nature of Burns and Wysolovskis arrangement, DeTardo said he could not guarantee a rape conviction at trial.
Beyond that, Burns and her family did not wish to go through a jury trial, and their main goal was having Wysolovski register as a sex offender, which Thursdays sentence accomplished.

(3,765 posts)I think another thing that complicated this is that the age of consent in both North Carolina and Georgia is 16. Still, he kept her without her consent long past the time when she rescinded her consent.

yeah, the guy's a sh*thead, no doubt about that.
he deserved quite a lot more prison time than 8 months already served, obviously.
really, he spent less time in a cage than she did!
but it really doesn't justify the government taking away anyone's right to vote.
frankly, i'm more bothered by the judge who thinks that sentence is appropriate voting than i am about the criminal voting, but i don't think the government should take away his right to vote, either....

(52,317 posts)given that he was sentenced to 8 months in prison. he was given credit for time served, so there was no jail time *after* sentencing, but still, he was in jail for 8 months.
the real problem is that it was only 8 months instead of 8 years or more....

And this puke got out with 8 months for treating another human being - a minor at that - cruelly for over a year.
What a fucked-up "justice" system we have.
