It was never even on national media.
Yet at same time a female intern working for a dem Congressman disappears, and it's headline news for weeks. When her body is found in a DC? park, the event is discussed for weeks, and he's suspected of killing her in the aftermath of an affair gone bad. He loses his seat.
Oh, of course, good ol' Joe is a GOPer.
And now in the guise of a sincere Evangelical, Joe lectures Franklin Graham on public proclamations re Christian moraity.

(5,126 posts)Franklin Graham and others like him that use religion to strengthen their foothold at power damn the consequences are disgusting. I see Graham as a charlatan, a false prophet, and demagogue. He deserves to be lectured.

Preliminary findings from the medical examiner's office showed no foul play or any outward indication of suicide, said Police Chief Steve Hogue.
Authorities identified the woman as Lori Klausutis, 28. She had worked for Scarborough since May 1999, said Mick Serrano, press secretary for the congressman. Her body was found on the floor behind a desk about 8 a.m. Authorities were not sure if she had been there overnight or had arrived early.
The Washington Post (and several other major media outfits) did a stories when Trump mentioned the issue:

(25,816 posts)Wouldn't the coroner be able to establish the time of death within an hour
or two? Being there overnight versus arriving early is a big difference in
the amount of hours dead.

(37,161 posts)Without getting into the case of about Lori Klausutis, the disappearance of Chandra Levy, which happened in roughly the same period, was the subject of near-endless breathless speculation on national news media. They were salivating over the possibility that her boss, Rep. Gary Condit (D-Of Course), was involved: affair? Was she "disposed of"?, etc. Instead, a year later he body was found, and all that speculation turned out to be bullshit -- hot air from excited people treating their own salacious imaginations as news.
I don't know enough to have an opinion on the Klausutis case, but the contrast in media coverage, especially straight off of how badly they handled the Republican attempt to bring down Clinton over horseshit, was a major "missed story" (a "missed" aided by 911 and Iraq taking primacy in the headlines).

(8,231 posts)get the feeling that everybody really thought that the Congressman did it. I was not paying much attention to the news in those days though at all.
I just don't think these two cases can be equated. One was definitely a murder and one was not.

(10,435 posts)To this day, it's amazing how many people remember the "sordid Chandra Levy killing", but know nothing about Scarborough and Klausutis.
The blog "All Hat No Cattle" has a great post on this. [link:https://all-hat-no-cattle.blogspot.com/2016/12/controlling-narrative.html|
From the post:
How did Scarborough escape even the slightest scrutiny? He controlled the narrative just like he does on his show. Just like he tried to do to me by sending me a cease and desist letter through his lawyer in 2006. It didn't work. I'm in good company, he sent Michael Moore one too.
Also, Lori's family did not want any media attention. None. They saw what Chandra Levy's family was going through at that time. And they were angry at Scarborough for putting out false reports that Lori was sickly. She was not.
The NWFlorida Daily News covered the story, the only paper to do so. Joe's hometown paper, the Pensacola News Journal wrote a blurb on it in section 2B three days after Scarborough's aides death. Channel 3 news did a couple of reports. The end.
Scarborough quit congress in May 2001. Lori Klausutis was found dead July 20, 2001.
This is such a Flori-duh story with a cast of characters beyond belief. Much more interesting than the Gary Condit tidbits.
The whole thing is well worth reading. Scarborough has erase it from history. It's hard to find even if you know what you are looking for.
