thom hartmann on impeachment vs censure -- worth a listen

"an impeachment investigation, which essentially turns the house into a courtroom, and gives the house judiciary committee access to things they otherwise wouldn't have access to, can end up voting to censure rather than to impeach. it's not an all-or-nothing and you don't have to go to the senate. ...censure will pass either house with a simple majority--it doesn't need the 2/3 of the senate that impeachment does to remove a president from office. "

thom talks about nixon from may to august of 1973; in may the support for removing him from office was 19 percent during the watergate hearings and it went up to 57 percent by the day he resigned. so the key to the whole thing is not whether you can win in the senate or the house, it's whether fifty percent of americans want trump removed from office. the thing that will make that happen--that will wake people up to that--is laying out his crimes.

he also said (not in this clip) that if impeachment hearings were going on trump would not be able to pardon b/c that would interfere with the hearings.

That was during the Senate Watergate committee hearings which were not impeachment hearings. So it sounds like he’s supporting House investigations and not yet moving to impeachment hearings.
