* Just because you have a stone face it doesn't mean you belong on Mount Rushmore.
* For over two years the Democrats have been sitting around waiting for MUELLER's report. And he came back with, 'Ask someone else.'
* As if DOSTOYEVSKY wrote Crime and No Punishment.
* We needed Superman and got Clark KENT.
* MUELLER's report is full of 'buts' - Don Junior met with the Russians, BUT. MANAFORT gave polling data to the Russians, BUT. (SHITLER) obstructed justice every day BUT.
* He's a straight arrow, he played it by the book. But in case you haven't noticed, we've been OFF book for the past three years.
* All he had to do was what people in the justice system do every day: Use the law to come to justice not to be so restricted by technicalities that the bad guys win.
* What good is leaving a road map to impeachment. Your trail of bread crumbs isn't good enough. That turned out well for Hansel and Gretl.
* 'Junior wouldn't testify.' So MAKE HIM. (SHITLER) couldn't testify because he would perjure himself?!1 And that's OUR problem?! It's one feckless punt after another.
* You can't indict a sitting president? It's not in the Constitution, it's not even a law. It's a GUIDELINE, like drinking white wine with fish or not fucking your cousin. It's a fucking memo. The headline the next day would be 'MUELLER breaks precedent,' and that would have been our new reality, and it would have been a better reality.
* Now (SHITLER) can go into the election like he's innocent and Hell hath no fury like a whiny little bitch scorned.

(53,778 posts)which is fine most of the time but this isn't most of the time. trump has put up roadblocks to justice left and right and appointing Barr is just his latest gambit.
Barr is continuing the obstruction which has the potential of letting trump get away with everything and appear exonerated, which can lead to a win in 2020 and his establishment of autocracy and chief executive who can be touched by Congress, who is above the law.
Where is the John Dean we need. Maybe it'll be McGahn, or even Mueller himself if the goes before Congress and tells everything he knows.

(1,159 posts)If Barr forced Mueller to prematurely shut the investigation down for purely political reasons, such that Mueller wanted to continue but was instructed to shut it down to protect Whothefuckever, then the question becomes whether Barr's conduct meets the legal definition of obstruction of justice.

At this point all Republicans should be treated at arms length and never trusted to do the right thing.

(70,695 posts)or minimally failing to see the crux of the matter (crux being prosecuting). MAHER listed historical figures now called "great" based on their having made horrendously difficult choices and decisions, contrasting MUELLER's as not being anywhere so difficult as theirs, which he didn't carry out anyway. If MUELLER's motivation was partisan, he looks that much smaller.
That said, throughout all the national discussions, the critical issues are the integrity of public service, trust that there *CAN* be impartial investigations, while SHITLER is beating the drum that all investigations and judgments are rigged/coup/nefarious unless the results are in his favor.

We can sit around and wait for SDNY to do something. More false hopes IMHO.

(11,308 posts)Not intended as sarcasm. Is there a time frame for the unredacted report? To anybody? Last I heard Barr was offering a slightly less redacted version to select individuals in congress. Grand jury stuff still off limits. I'd like to be optimistic here, but ... DOJ? Barr? When does this happen?
I kinda agree with Maher on this point. Mueller ducked. (might have FELT that was the correct course. don't think history will agree.)
But he's still more entertainer than journalist. Enjoy him but .. grain of salt.

(67 posts)So I guess about that long, Supreme Court will hear this one pretty quickly. Mueller had to duck, DOJ policy precludes indicting a sitting president. In the unredacted report I believed he laid out the case for impeachment. I have confidence that Nadler will move as soon as he gets the real Mueller report.
Hold on for a little bit, gone by Labor Day.

(90,339 posts)... out the investigation by Rosenstein who's shown himself to he a hack.
gulliver
(13,181 posts)Play out the scenario where Mueller indicts Trump. The Republicans would then immediately have begun screaming that Mueller had broken with DOJ policy. It would be the "deep state" effecting a "coup" in violation of "norms" of the criminal justice system. The good guys need to uphold norms, at least government norms, now more than ever.
Mueller also could not recommend impeachment directly. That would have usurped the role of the House.
Mueller gave us "just the facts." That's perfect, imo. It let's the Dems in the House take charge of the investigation and run the hearings necessary to get the facts out to the people. We'll get Mueller as a witness, not a prosecutor. That's going to be very damning to Trump.

(13,181 posts)It should have been changed when there would have been no question that it was being changed on principle. That is, no one would have thought Obama might face indictment, so his Justice Department could have revisited and reversed the policy. Unfortunately, right now we have someone in the Oval Office to whom the reversed policy would apply immediately. The policy change would therefore give the appearance of being deliberately aimed at Trump rather than merely being aimed at Presidents in general who merit indictment for the good of the country.

that he will testify criticizing ROSENSTEIN, who appointed him in the first place and whose cover for himself has been supposedly to shield the investigation.
My initial reaction to the initial release of the report (I read the 2 Executive Summaries only) was to cheer that MUELLER laid out a cartload of damning evidence against SHITLER and that he intended for the House to take it from there. Plus, I didn't even believe that MUELLER *should* testify, since he said what he said, clearly, and what he meant, clearly, in the report such that blowhard rehashing by congresscritters is a big waste. Now I think he will be just as guarded in any testimony and that he *should* have indicted or at least confronted the DRUMPFs for not testifying, as MAHER says. "Careful"? or failure of nerve?
With the time too short to the election, seems like going the voting-out thing is the (only) way out.

Mueller, Rosenstein, Comey, Barr, Burr, Ryan, Gowdy, etc, etc, etc... I've been saying this for a year. They will all err on the side of Republicans. They all love Trump's Supreme Court picks and their new tax bracket.
