A senior Democratic committee aide said that if Barr insists on not testifying over objections to the format, he may risk a subpoena.
Barr is expected to testify before the Senate and House Judiciary committees on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, about special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. But according to senior aides for the panels chairman, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), Justice Department officials have objected to Democrats plans to permit extended questioning, including by the committees lawyers, and they threatened that Barr may withdraw.
A Justice Department official said discussions are ongoing. Our position is the attorney general agreed to appear before Congress, the official said. Therefore, members are the ones who do the questioning.

(67 posts)Line em up and start impeaching the whole criminal gang. And that includes Kavanaugh, and Thomas. If we get rid of Pence, Pelosi would be President. How much more do we have to take?

(18,486 posts)Impeachment doesn't equal removal. And these people are so craven, they won't see impeachment as an embarrassment or humiliation or shame.
So what's your end game?

(67 posts)But what they do is wrong, I think the only moral choice is to say enough is enough. At the beginning of the Watergate hearing the public was opposed to impeachment. But the hearings turned that around. Nothing is a given but it's the best chance we have. We have to make a statement.

(18,486 posts)But it won't mean anything at this point.
The American public already knows or has access to the information and evidence an impeachment at this stage would be based on and they don't care. We need to build a stronger case and the only way to do that is through the committees' investigative process.
I'm not interested in "statements" at this point. We need to to focus on doing things that will actually make a difference, not just that will make a portion of the Democratic base feel good.
