Remember "FLIP-FLOP!!! FLIP-FLOP!!!"?

John Kerry losing the 2004 election is what you get when you compromise on extremely important issues, like whether we invade a country that had done nothing to us, or whether we do everything we can to hold a president who has shown no regard whatsoever for the idea of democracy accountable for his behavior.

NOT impeaching Trump will get used by him during the election as an answer to all criticism. "Well, if I was so bad, why didn't you impeach me???" He'll of course phrase it much nastier than that, but it will be the crux of his message. At best, the Democrats are weak- they didn't have the guts to stand up when it mattered. Either that, or all of their criticisms now are just bullshit. Either way, vote for Trump, he will say.

It's the same thing that happened to Kerry. Do not compromise on impeachment, it will only make things worse.

I agree with you. We need to go on the record or it will be used against us by Trump. CTyankee Apr 2019 #1

We have the absolute right to hold him accountable. It will be interpreted as a sign of weakness if we don't.

However, hold open hearings during the summer and hopefully galvanize people's attention and then move to impeachment hearings in late summer or early fall once all the evidence is out in the open.

I would gather most people in the US haven't read the Mueller Report and are just going by what they hear in whatever is their chosen media. Open hearings would bring it alive and allow for follow up, particularly those that are already in the report and have at least one version of their testimony locked in.

If the Ds don't impeach or at least investigate the hell out of this, they will not be seen to be strong. Remember that even in the Spring 1974, a minority of Americans wanted Nixon impeached. It was the House Judiciary Hearings that summer that changed things.

Idea (c) 1973 by the Sam Ervin's Senate Select Committee on Presidential Elections (ie, the Senate Watergate Committee) and 1974 House Judiciary Committee.

They're going to spin it any way it goes so might as well start impeachment proceedings before it's too late.

If we try to impeach, he'll say "The Losers are obsessed with Donald! They've been on a Witch Hunt for years! If I were guilty of anything, their hit dog Mueller would have indicted me!"

If we don't impeach, he'll say what you said he'll say.

That's politics.

Pelosi needs to make sure the impeachment votes are there before they try to do it.
