(2,611 posts)the House Sergeant at Rms and his team can be dispatched. I dont know how that would turn out. There are also limited cell facilities in the capitol building.

(18,486 posts)The procedures for enforcing a subpoena are the same regardless which Congressional committee or proceeding the witness is being compelled to appear before.
There are lots of questions about whether and how the Sergeant-at-Arms can enforce a contempt citation. But an impeachment proceeding does not give him any special powers.

(2,611 posts)I cant recall where I heard it, but I believe it was a veteran of Watergate. A woman, I believe. She explained it as an issue strictly of using the SaA to enforce a Congressional subpoena. No restriction on issuing a subpoena, finding a person in contempt for refusing to honor it, or even the legality of the finding. She did seem pretty clear that habeas corpus would spring any detainee short of impeachment proceedings. She also suggested that jailing someone before impeachment begins would constitute a bill of attainder.

Said they are going to "negotiate" for "the next day or two" and if Barr doesn't comply, they will issue a subpoena.

(58,785 posts)Although I dont think we should get our hopes up for seeing Barr in cuffs, a contempt citation will allow them to arrest him if they choose. They have both the power to issue and the power to enforce.
This is a threat with teeth. But my guess is its most interesting for what it indicates about what would come next.
