I guess if he thought it would help him consolidate power, hed welcome impeachment. He'll not be convicted by this senate, and if he is impeaxhed and not convicted, we'll never hear the end of it.

Mainly because she could back in front of the cameras and pretend she just doesn't know WHAT ever she will do and how she would vote, and oh how perfectly horrid are some of the things Trump has done, and my my my what a crisis of morality.

Truly. The book, "Trump on the Couch" goes into this. Trump likes to break things literally and figuratively. He is driven by breaking the rules and getting away with it. He likes to torpedo deals, 1 to see if he can gain advantage, and 2 to see if they can be repaired. He likes destruction.

He hasn't really been punished, at least not to the extent that he deserves negative consequences. He deludes himself into thinking that if he can walk away from a situation, then he has won in some way. It's a pretty sick dynamic.

Be careful spouting that here. "That's just crazy." "Hyperbolic" " " Way too many DUers think tRump would NEVER go that far and that votes alone will force him out.

hacking/meddling/election stealing, I really don't see what is stopping them from doing it again unfortunately.
I wish all we needed was the votes, I am not trying to be negative. This worries me greatly.

We have a criminal President*, a complicit and corrupt political party, supported by a rabid base that's been fed a steady diet of right-wing hate propaganda for the last 40 years (it was effective). We've watched them treat the rule of law with contempt, watched tRump say he may not respect the outcome of an election and he floated the idea of President for life. He's been readying his cult for the moment when he calls on them to defend him. I, too, wish all we needed was votes.

It would feed his victim/martyr persecution complex and that of his supporters.

He knows the Senate would never convict, that impeachment would backfire on Democrats, and that it would guarantee his reelection.

First, his ego couldn't stand it. Second, he knows he will be indicted the minute he is out of office.

impeachment earlier as opposed to later - as his best bet. At what point that logically is, gets skewed by the erratic trump listening to all sorts of advisers, with all sorts of interests.

Remember back when he actually won the Electoral College vote? Everyone was saying he'd step down before the inauguration. Didn't happen. Over and over again there are predictions he'll resign. That hasn't happened and won't happen, with the possible exception that he'd resign if it meant not serving time in jail.

He is a complete and total ego-maniac, is sincerely convinced that he's The Best President Ever. And his capable of no more subtlety than a 6 year old setting ants on fire with a magnifying glass on a hot summer day. So don't go thinking he has some complicated long game happening.

However, he does have exceptional survival instincts and a history of coming out of all sorts of troubles seemingly unharmed and even claiming victory.

I don't think he understands what impeachment means and simply thinks of it as another battle for him to win. Or claim to win.

I doubt he realizes that if his toadies in the Senate lose their fear of him, Which they could, he could be frogmarched out of the White House.
