They're trying to deal with an utterly lawless regime using lawful and normal measures and procedures. That is NOT going to work and will only make them look ineffective and weak.
They're going to have to come up with another way to enforce compliance. Can they not cut off all funds immediately to the DoJ or at least the AG's office? NO salaries, no operational budget for anything. Shut them down financially. Until he goddamned complies.

(12,344 posts)any better than Trump holding it up for a wall. Theoretically, we could hold DOJ alone, but in practice, the GOP would insist all or none, and blame us.

(17,403 posts)Current funding runs through 9/30, so that is the earliest you could partially shut down the government.

what exactly would this accomplish?

(1,168 posts)that is a winning course of action? That this will result in winning 2020?
ON EDIT: Convince me that I'm wrong in thinking the best course of action here, to get to the nub of the question: "Did Barr mischaracterize the Mueller Report" would be to skip Barr and question Mueller on these things. Go right to the source.

(22,165 posts)The House has the purse strings.
Of course we need to go straight to Mueller. Barr has proven that he is worthless.

(42,768 posts)So exactly how does Congress defund the DOJ/AG?
And what would the consequences be of defunding the Office of the Attorney General (not even going to imagine shutting down the entire DOJ). What legitimate law enforcement activities would be compromised? How many clerical workers and staff would find themselves without a pay check? Do you think Barr needs the money? And how do you avoid a Constitutional bill of attainder issue?
This idea has come up several times and it never, ever, makes the slightest bit of sense.
