... but the irony was that many of those boys went into the National Guard in order to avoid getting drafted for Vietnam. In a way it was their own silent war protest. The Vietnam War was forever misguided and it tore our country apart for way too many years. People voted for Richard Nixon in 1968 because they believed him when he said he would end the war. And then he didn't. So much tragedy would have been averted if Nixon had kept his promise to end the war.
