You think the US won the War of Independence? I disagree....:-)

You know why? Here we are in 2019, living in the secular west, the religious right wing is doing its best to take away our freedoms. We still enjoy a freedom of choice that man and women kind has never known before of course, but not if they get their way. For the last 2000 years as the West has developed its customs rights and laws, they have looked to the bible to help shape the fundamental culture and behaviours of nations. In the UK, within the latter centuries, this was within the context of progressive thought and values as we matured as a nation, in the main because all our religious nutters headed west.

We are currently witnessing day in and day out, how the religious nutters that left England for the East India Company across the pond still have an influence today. Their descendants cling to mores from centuries ago like that is actually a good thing. It is not. It is pre-reformation thinking in a post-reformation world. Just in the last week or so it is possible to pluck unlimited examples of pre-reformation thinking from the religious right crowd. Alabama anyone? Missouri? From the squeals and howls of protest at the Equality Act, to claims of consensual rape. One would still mind a tad of pre-reformation thinking if they were following the teachings of Jesus, but that they don’t is galling, as they scramble to deny the rights and freedoms of fellow citizens. They fail in every measure of love, faith and belief.

The religious right continually resists embracing the values of the wider community, with a fierce howl of protest at the unfairness of it all, that they are right dammit. That they know the truth, that their values are the only values, that they are RIGHT.

Gotta tell ya. You know why we, the Brits, ACTUALLY won the war of Independence? It may seem that the Red Coats lost, but that is an illusion. Cause you got all our far right religious nutters. As mad as our lot our, they are nothing on your lot. Hands up. Our bad.

Sorry, but we won....

which too often really means the ability for us to have our religion and force others to follow our "morals" based on our doctrine.
