(30,745 posts)I needed a scorecard, but did not have one. I felt like sitting on the floor in the living room with my head in my hands. And I had been faithful in keeping up! Imagine the people who had not paid attention.
I am worried about the people now who are not paying attention. We did not have Faux News during Watergate.

and if we're lucky, we get a 2fer, and faux comes out looking like the paid propaganda outlet that it is.

(23,002 posts)And I also hope there's not a date certain for it...in like Sept. Bc that's been the pattern to cool everyone out everyday. Say "relief is coming"..today, with the proviso,..'but you have to wait. And wait. And wait.' Until possibly, it's too late, we(they), confuse you, or find some lawyer that will make that promise in MAY, unacceptable to them in Sept. but, it got them to Sept. on and on.
And on.

(54,410 posts)Scenario 1.) DOJ is going to turn over a doctored version and hope no one who saw the original gets to let the cat out of the bag.
Scenario 2.) Trump and his private legal staff have been (or will be) clued in as how to deal with any and all uncomfortable passages.
Scenario 3.) Barr is throwing in the towel (may or may not include resigning soon--he must have heard where Tillerson was yesterday), and is leaving the moron to twist in the wind.
My guess is somewhere between scenarios one and two, but wouldn't #3 be nice to contemplate?
Baitball Blogger
(46,740 posts)But, if that new Mueller report comes out next week, I don't think Trump's private legal staff will be able to keep up with all the information that is being revealed every day. And sometimes, several things in the same day! We just need to keep notice of all that we're learning by the hour, because you know that the powers that will take Trump down, will be two steps ahead of us.
DFW
(54,410 posts)If it comes to that, the powers that will bring Trump down will have an R after their titles (and before their states).
As I have always thought--the tipping point to make his right wing support in Congress evaporate is when they see polls so negatively stacked against them that even with voter suppression and vote counting fraud, they STILL lose the Senate and lose bigger in the House than they did last time. Self-preservation is a far more powerful motivator than loyalty among congressional Republicans. After all, plenty of them were counting on lucrative lobbying jobs after their terms in office. No repeat term in office, no lucrative lobbying job. That is enough to make ANY Republican Congressperson say, "Donald who?"

(5,801 posts)going in for questioning was a BFD--after all, he saw red don up close and personal, after which he called the moron a moron and got fired as a result. And, even though he is an oil soaked plutocrat, he probably doesn't want the country to go down in flames because of the moron. So, he likely didn't pull any punches and spilled the beans on the rampant criminality.

(5,801 posts)that's a good point. Much more likely he did than didn't.
And red don no longer really has any hold on Tillerson, unlike many others, so Rex could do the right thing without fear of repercussions (other than perhaps some dirty looks at the country club).

(54,410 posts)Tillerson knows plenty about Russian connections. The big question I see is whether or not Tillerson CAN be offered enough to spill all the beans he is holding. He certainly has more money than he knows what to do with, and I don't think he has any felony indictments hanging over his head. So revenge for humiliation seems to be the only motive he could possibly have for cooperating with Congress.
That having been said, revenge for humiliation, as we know only too well after two and a half years of Trump, can be as motivating as money, provided the person in question already has plenty of it (and Tillerson does).

(11,317 posts)I thought there were actual legal impediments to releasing some of the report? (Grand jury stuff + ?) Has this changed? Would it (could it) be released to Intelligence under some sort of gag order? Coming from the DOJ, something doesn't sound exactly right here.

(4,575 posts)Who has had a high enough security clearance all along to read the unredacted report. Barr had to have known this would happen eventually though. I wonder if he sees that Donnie's sales job of no collusion no obstruction has been a failure to the public or if they have another dirty trick up their sleeve? Either way, I don't think they saw Tillerson coming. That one hurt.
Trump's behavior in the non meeting this morning also seems desperate.

(11,317 posts)NYTimes reporting makes this sound like a compromise deal. Not the whole unredacted report.
NYTimes --
"Mr. Schiffs subpoena is broad, encompassing Robert S. Mueller IIIs full report, its underlying evidence and the intelligence-related materials his investigation produced. But in an effort to find an initial compromise, Mr. Schiff said he would accept documents in 12 narrower categories, though he has not specified publicly what they are."
"The Intelligence Committee appears to be getting material that was not subject to the privilege claim. As one of two congressional bodies charged with overseeing American intelligence agencies, it has strong legal claims on such counterintelligence and intelligence information, and in this case, the Democrats requesting the material had the support of Republicans on the committee.
It is unclear if the department will reconsider Mr. Trumps privilege claim going forward. Democrats plan to challenge it in court."

(9,155 posts)the kind of deal that just allows the heads of the Intelligence Committee to view it, but not copy it for dissemination.
I believe that was something the crooks at Justice were proposing earlier.
They don't want it out because they'll lose control of their "no collusion, no obstruction" spin.
DallasNE
(7,403 posts)Conspiracy is a crime. Mueller said he could not charge conspiracy because that requires proving intent. That was the case because people would not talk because of the obstruction in the form of pardons to hand out like candy. I came away with the feeling that those close to the President were not indicted at this time because the result would be a pardon. Wait until Trump is out of office and then charge them, taking away the promise of a pardon. That might also loosen up some lips.
former9thward
(32,028 posts)He did not say he could not charge conspiracy because people "did not talk". The report is online for anyone to read.
