not "put off"- that is when they've been given a date in the court of appeals, which isn't excessive hlthe2b May 2019 #2

That's the date scheduled for oral argument. That's a pretty short timetable - they put it on an accelerated schedule.

It may seem far off, but that's not a lot of time. The attorneys have to prepare and submit briefs and responsive and reply briefs to the court in the meantime. Usually this takes several months - 7 weeks is very fast.

(from the WaPo, 5/20/19) - "both the D.C. Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court could resolve this within the next five weeks in an adverse way to President Trump." We'll see.

Can a regular person appeal a subpoena?

Why is that power not absolute?

The first step is to go to court to ask the court to issue an preliminary injunction against enforcement of the subpoena.

In this case, Trump's lawyers went to court to request the injunction, but their request was denied. They have now appealed this ruling to the Court of Appeals. That's the matter that will have oral arguments in July.
