If Trump is not impeached. the attacks will continue to worsen...

As we have seen, each charge against Donald Trump creates an even more dangerous and radical reaction.

With the first serious hint of impeachment talk, he reacts with his threat to a counter investigation of the investigators.

After Mueller comes forth to explain his report and to contradict AG Barr's version, Trump goes off the rail and accuses his opposition of "treason". When told that treason could result in the death penalty, he doubled down.

What's next?

How bad will it get before he is held accountable?

If Trump is impeached, but the Senate doesn't convict, will the American public believe he has been exonerated?

The assumption that the attacks will get worse if he isn't impeached don't hold water at all from Trump's history.

Whether Trump is impeached or not, the attacks will get worse.

If Trump is impeached, but not convicted, the attacks will get worse.

If Trump is impeached, and convicted, that is the only way the attacks will not get worse, because he will have been removed from office

McConnell could in effect call for an immediate vote and get rid of any articles of impeachment without a full trial

GOP senators say that if the House passes articles of impeachment against President Trump they will quickly quash them in the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has broad authority to set the parameters of a trial.

While McConnell is required to act on articles of impeachment, which require 67 votes — or a two-thirds majority — to convict the president, he and his Republican colleagues have the power to set the rules and ensure the briefest of trials.

“I think it would be disposed of very quickly,” said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)....

“Why on earth would we give a platform to something that I judge as a purely political exercise?” said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), another member of the Judiciary Committee. “We have to perform our constitutional duty, but if people think that we’re going to try and create a theater that could give you the perception that this is a matter that rises to the level of Watergate, that’s nonsense.”

Tillis said he would support McConnell bringing the impeachment process to a quick close, and that any kind of extended trial would be “rewarding what I view as bad behavior on the part of the House.”

Impeachment won't do anything to stop him. The attacks likely will get much worse.

That's not an argument against impeachment. It's just to say impeachment isn't some kind of magic wand that will fix things. It does not hold him accountable. Only removal from office would do that, and the Republicans will make sure that never happens.

I don’t think we have seen anything yet... If/when the walls really do start to close in around trump he’s gonna pull out all the stops and it will get ugly. Because he thinks he can still get away with all this and between the timidity of Dems, his bullying and the way just enough doubt/cover is generated about the issues he just might.

Clearly, they will never want what I want. I want the hearings. I want his name run through the mud and his crimes exposed every damn day until the election. A dramatic and disgusting revelation every day. I want to see squirming administration figures testifying under oath. EXPOSE the rotten underbelly. Every damn day. I want subpoenas for the whole family, Pence and Trump. I want court orders. Documents. EVERYTHING on the table. Why shouldn't we know the truth before the next election?

If they are too cowardly to call it "impeachinghim," then call it an official investigation into how to prevent Russian involvement in our elections. I suspect that investigation will parallel any impeachment hearing, just by another name. EXPOSE the scumbags. Every Russian probe should end up a GOP person's ass -- Trump first, then all the rest of them. We Democrats have to start being as underhanded as the GOP. No impeachment? Then how do we go about making GOP lives even worse than the "I" word?

It's the one thing narcissists can't stand. But that means the opposite of investigating and impeaching.

Another approach, that accomplishes both goals, is impeaching Barr. Get's the information out while making Trump seem less important.

Perhaps create a fourth branch of government with an elected AG at the head, as many states do. The AG would have the power to indict the President. To keep the AG's actions under control, an independent panel of judges would have oversight of the AG. The judges could appoint an independent counsel to investigate any actions of the AG, the President or a Congress member.
