(43 posts)And that is the "expedited" schedule!
And of course that is just a hearing. Sometime later the judges will decide. Then that will be appealed to another court.

Dems are attacking the problem from multiple angles, one of which being going after accounting data from Mazars, the people who did Trump's taxes.
I, too, am curious about what's happening with the direct request to the IRS for Trump's taxes, the path which Munchkin is blocking and IIRC is in violation of a subpoena to provide.

(18,486 posts)The case went on the court's accelerated calendar.
Six weeks from filing a notice of appeal to oral arguments is extraordinarily fast. It usually takes months.
And 6 weeks is barely enough time for the attorneys to prepare and file their appellant briefs, appellee responses, and appellant responses and any other pleadings the court may require. In federal court world, six weeks is a blink of the eye.
FYI, it's not 'just a hearing." It's an oral argument after which the judges usually decide immediately (literally - they discuss the case and usually decide it the anteroom right off of the courtroom as soon as they adjourn), although depending on the the case, finalizing the written opinion can take time. But in a case like this, the opinion will may be almost finished before arguments and will just need finishing touches put on based on what they heard in oral arguments.
And there's only one court this can be appealed to - the Supreme Court (although there could be a rehearing by the full appellate court before it's appealed).
But, in short, so far the courts are moving at lightning speed on these cases.

(34,661 posts)in the last three weeks when it comes to this Story. Trump and Crime Syndicate Stories are being over looked on purpose one Ponzi Don's numbers started going South. The Narrative Change is Tariff's and Speaker Pelosi's false narrative of foot dragging on Impeachment.
My take is,the Media is scared shitless of what they did to elect this POS and they are aware of the National Giant awakening and they will be the focus for lack of exposing the crimes and misdeeds of these criminals.
Clue number one,the Editor of the NY Times is barring certain Reporters and Editors from appearing on Rachael Maddow claiming they do not want their people involved in any Political Discussions. Yah Right, you Have Hacks like Habberman and Schmidt spewing White House Talking Points, wtf.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is continuing to defy a request from Congress, first issued in April, to provide Trumps tax returns.
On Tuesday, Justin Sok, senior adviser for Treasurys Office of Legislative Affairs, insisted that Mnuchin was justified in his stonewalling because of supposed legal advice from the Department of Justice that doesnt even exist in writing yet and no one knows when it ever will.
The Department of Justice intends to memorialize its advice in a published legal opinion as soon as its practicable, Sok wrote in a letter to Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee. We will provide a copy of the opinion to you when we receive it ...
Neither Mnuchin nor his staff have provided any explanation for why its taking the DOJ so long to provide this legal guidance that is the entire basis of Mnuchins refusal ...

... In his letter, Wyden recounted previous instances where the tax-writing committees on a bipartisan basis have obtained tax return information.
He said the Finance Committee had asked the IRS more than a dozen times for return information related to executives at failed energy company Enron as well as to various tea party groups that were seeking tax-exempt status, among other examples.
"I am not aware of any cause in which an IRS commissioner failed to provide the requested information promptly and completely, including cases that were politically controversial, such as the ACORN and tea party investigations," wrote Wyden in the letter. "Further, I am not aware of any case in which the IRS or Treasury Department questioned the Chairman's authority to obtain the requested tax return information" ...

... We have sworn Congressional testimony that you artificially deflated your assets to skirt paying the taxes that fund schools & more (a crime), & inflated your assets for insurance (also a crime), she said. Mueller has nothing to do with that. Cough up the receipts.
Trump spent much of the morning attacking Mueller for his two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election ...

... On Monday, a Federal Judge ruled that Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin must release President Trumps tax returns to Congress, days after Mnuchin said he would defer to the courts on if he has the legal responsibility to do so. The Trump administration contends that Congress is not requesting the tax returns for a legitimate legislative purpose, and therefore the request should not be granted.
The Judge says it all, Klobuchar said on Twitter. It is simply not fathomable that a Constitution that grants Congress the power to remove a President .. would deny Congress the power to investigate him for unlawful conduct-past or present-even without opening an impeachment inquiry.
On Wednesday, another Federal judge ruled that the President could not stop Congress from obtaining his financial records via another route his business with Deutsche bank ...
