Apple Just Announced It's Selling a Mac Monitor Stand for $999
By Shira Ovide

There were some murmurs among developers as Apple was running through the pricing for the new Mac Pro computer. Presumably this was directed at Apple’s fancy stand for its $5,000-and-up computer monitor. The stand alone is $999. Good news: You can purchase it separately for some reason.

but first you have to buy the $200 VESA adaptor.

The monitor is actually a very good deal if it meets the specs it advertises (which it probably will), the stand is just stupid.

If Industry reaction is anything to go by, they are going to sell a lot more of these monitors than Mac Pros.

You could hold up your $6000 monitor with a $75 VESA stand if you wanted.

As it turns out: $33,720.88 is likely the bare minimum — and that’s before factoring in the four GPUs, which could easily jack that price up to around $45,000.

For all that dough, big-budget video editors and other creative types get a lot of firepower: a 28-core Intel Xeon W processor, an almost-impossible-to-comprehend 1.5TB of RAM, 4TB of SSD storage, and four AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo GPUs — assuming you can afford one.

Add in a Pro Display XDR monitor (and a Pro Stand to go with it), and you’re looking at a workstation that could clear $50,000. Keep in mind too that these estimates are based on market prices for these (or similar) parts: Apple historically has charged far more for its pre-built configurations than for a computer you’d build on your own.

But the monitor is a great buy actually from what I've read.

This is not just another monitor which you can buy at your local electronics store people.

I'm also getting the $300 Monitor Stand Display Case for mine.

For those of us who are just buying the stand, the display case is a good idea, because the stand will not be protected by the monitor as it would if you were using it with a monitor.

Apple’s getting a lot of criticism for the pricing, which is almost always the case; people were mad when the newest 2018 Mac Mini started at $799 instead of the 2014 price of $599.

However, the Mac Pro is decidedly not a mass-market computer. Pro workstation computers have always been extremely costly. Look up the NeXT from 1990 ($10,000) or a current, fully-equipped Z-series workstation from HP.

Many people who will buy these monitors already have VESA-mount monitor stands, and yes the “Pro Stand” is overpriced. But it’s not something they’re going to make or sell in huge numbers, so it will be more expensive.

If you gotta ask how much something is, you're not their intended demographic. They appeal to rich Apple cult members with more money than sense.

Have made a ridiculous gain.

Love how their fans just keep buying overpriced crap.

You cannot convince them that alternatives are better or at least just as good.
