James Taylor showers his love on Obama, thanks in part to Penny PritzkerJust days after taking the stage at next week's Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., James Taylor will visit Chicago for a private performance at the home of Penny Pritzker and Bryan Traubert.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee hails from the Tar Heel state, so it's a natural that he'd perform at the convention. He'll be among the opening acts before Barack Obama accepts his party's nomination Sept. 6. The two are old friends, with the singer having performed at inauguration ceremonies nearly four years ago.
The convention performance is free and open to the public, a signal that the Obama campaign is as determined as ever to try to use the convention to woo voters in this battleground state, wrote the Charlotte Observer.
They're all of that age to know the origin of that 1970s album "Dad Loves His Work." Ms. Pritzker through a spokeswoman says she's "a longtime fan of James Taylor and he's a wonderful surrogate for President Obama" (who won't be at the event).

OP
No, it doesn't. Heartening to have a person like that in one's life or world. Theme music for Obama.

(53,661 posts)5. Well, I must post a video in honor of this thread:
James Taylor - You've Got A Friend
When you're down and troubled and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa, nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there to brighten up even your darkest nights.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there,
yeah, yeah,
you've got a friend.
If the sky above you should turn dark and full of clouds and that old north wind should begin to blow,
keep your head together and call my name out loud.
Soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there.
Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend? People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you. Well, they'll take your soul if you let them,
oh yeah, but don't you let them.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call, Lord, I'll be there, yeah, yeah,
you've got a friend. You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend. Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Oh, yeah, yeah, you've got a friend.

It was bit odd that the title of the video I found said James Taylor & Carole King but I didn't notice her in it, so I left that out on the lyrics title. She was a big favorite of mine back in the day, along with so many others. I'm glad to see that she is living the life that many dream of.
