Isn't that how it usually works, your 1st instinct is the best?
I wanted the Democrats to start impeachment hearings soon after they took power. Say february of this year. They had plenty of evidence to investigate from the hearings the Republicans were in charge of. The democrats knew people had lied under oath. They could have subpoenaed all of them. That was my first instinct.
Then events made me change my mind, Around February rumors started flying, Mueller was going to turn over his report. I thought if this was true the Democrats should wait for the report and then impeach that fucking asshole. The report was released and the unimaginable happened.
Afterwards the Democrats said we will start investigating and build a case for impeachment. I said that sounds reasonable and then Trumped blocked everything, stalled the investigations. At that point I said fuck it, impeach that asshole. Enough!
Now here we are and another factor is becoming very important, Time. Time is short, if the Democrats do not start the impeachment hearings soon they will run out of time.
My first instinct may have been the right one because of the time factor.

I believe impeachment proceedings will happen soon, without warning.

(14,000 posts)But apparently Pelosi doesnt have the votes. And worse than a Senate exoneration would be a Democratically-led house failing on an impeachment vote. But I agree with you, that the clock is ticking.

(115,719 posts)What's the best way to drive Trump completely off the rails? Make him worry constantly about the threat and possibility of impeachment. He's as dumb as a bag of hair, but he's smart enough to know that all of these subpoenas and investigations are intended to lead somewhere very bad for him. I say let him stew for awhile longer while the investigations continue. It looks like the committees have figured out a way to bypass Barr's stonewalling and get the subpoenas complied with. Once McGahn has testified, things should get really interesting.

(54,770 posts)people are sick of Impeachment threats, investigations, obstruction by trump, etc.
Right after he fired Comey and acknowledged "stopping the investigation" was part (of main) reason.
At this point, I think we'd be better off beating trump and GOPers at the polls, than spending so much time on Impeachment. But, gotta acknowledge that I certainly don't know for sure what is best, . . . . . . . but neither does anyone else.

(5,528 posts)The blocking and obstruction becomes part of the reason to start impeachment.
Trump is providing political cover for us to move forward by being obstructionist.
In other words, "we tried to do this the easy way but now he leaves us no choice"
It is a much better position to be in with the American people.
