Giant Message to Trump Etched into Nebraska Cornfield: “No 45” + “No KXL”

World’s largest crop art message to Trump unveiled Wednesday in 33-acre field on the Tanderup farm was created by volunteers with artist John Quigley

Neligh, NE — A gigantic message to President Trump, etched into a 33-acre Nebraska cornfield was unveiled on Wednesday, featuring the U.S. Constitution’s “We the People” and iconic images of a bison and water paired with the twin hashtags “#No 45” and “#No KXL,” in direct reference to the current President and the proposed Keystone XL tarsands export pipeline.

“Pres. Trump stands on stage saying he loves farmers while approving a foreign export pipeline using eminent domain on Americans,” said Jane Kleeb, Bold Nebraska founder. “The land is everything to farmers and Tribal Nations, and Trump continues to show his lack of respect and understanding. We the people have stopped this risky pipeline for 10 years and will not let a reckless President destroy our land and water.”

“’We The People’ – Farmers, Ranchers, and Tribal Nations have come together to protect the land, water, and people from the Keystone XL pipeline. The Crop Art is a reminder that the strength of America comes from its people,” said Nebraska farmer and “tractor artist” Art Tanderup, on whose family’s land the Crop Art was created.

I know it's a Republican stronghold, but it doesn't have to be, and it doesn't have to be in perpetuity. For a relatively small investment of time and money, Democrats could force Republicans to spend money shoring up what should be a gimme. And that will be money Republicans won't have to spend in Pennsylvania, Michigan or Texas.

I would rather have that money spent elsewhere. I am old enough to remember when we had Democratic governors and Senators. Now the state is ruled by Trump humpers and our inherited money governor is all in for Trump and even praises his policies while the farmers are getting wacked by the various tariffs. Regardless of all that, get outside of Lincoln and it's pretty much all red.

But a rally that gets the Democratic message and platform out directly to people without the Fox News filter might just change a few minds. It can also generate some local excitement, and let people of the state who are fighting the good fight know that they're not alone or forgotten. Nebraska is a relatively cheap media market, and a rally costing five figures could see a good return on investment. It certainly sounds like some Nebraskans are more than a little fed up with the current administration.

The #NoKXL Crop Art is based on a design conceived by Lakota artist Steve Tamayo with input from several Tribal Nations and local Nebraska artist Justin Kemerling, and a sketch by artist Jessica K. The image was created last weekend by nearly 100 volunteers who attended the Sixth Annual Sacred Ponca Corn Planting on the Tanderup farm — and land land now deeded to the Ponca Nation — that lies directly in the path of the proposed KXL pipeline as well as the Ponca Trail of Tears.
