President Trump on Wednesday announced a new defense cooperation between the United States and Poland, saying 1,000 more American service members will be sent to the country as part of a strategic partnership, while celebrating Polands planned purchase of F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets from the U.S.
The president said Poland will provide basing and infrastructure to support the military presence of about 1,000 American troops in the country.
The Polish government will build these projects at no cost to the United States, Trump said in the Rose Garden of the White House. The Polish government will pay for this.
Earlier in the day, the president said the United States has based tens of thousands of troops in Germany for a "long, long time" and that he probably would move a "certain number" of those personnel to Poland "if we agree to do it."

US President Donald Trump welcomed Polish President Andrzej Duda to the White House on Wednesday. The visit, Duda's second within a year, was ostensibly to deal with two issues: Poland's desire for an expanded US military presence and the US' desire to sell natural gas to Poland. During the meeting, Trump also touched on the possibility of sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 project and warned Germany not to be dependent on Russian energy.

Trump once again criticized Germany for its Nord Stream 2 pipeline deal with Russia, threatening the specter of sanctions at an unspecified time in the future.
"We're protecting Germany from Russia and Russia is getting billions and billions of dollars from Germany," Trump said, adding that the Nord Stream 2 deal "really makes Germany a hostage of Russia if things ever happen that were bad."
