Talking to my old, dear friend, who is a Trump Republican. I asked her that if Republican agenda is so great, why do they all, including President Trump, lie about everything.
Her reply surprised me. Jesus taught with parables, which are not meant to be taken as true stories, but are meant to lead us to a greater truth. If Jesus was fact checked on everything he said, would I think He was a liar?
That got me thinking. Remember Reagan, The Great Communicator? Remember how he used anecdotes that were clearly not true (welfare queen, strapping young buck using food stamps) and captivated his voters? Notice how Fox News will find a single teacher or activist who says something "controversial" and make a big deal of it? Trump also speaks in stories and anecdotes. Could it be that the narrative form of communication is why people relate to him?
I listened the last couple of days to Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden giving speeches. They laid out their cases using facts and data that I found convincing, but I imagine would befuddle a lot of folk. The Republicans and their media sycophants avoid facts and data and instead tell stories, and repeat the same stories over and over across the spectrum. Is this how they have captured their base?

So long ago, but something about the repetitive use of words and phrases to guide the student to the appropriate response. Made sense during the Bush years, even more sense now.

Never forget that in 1960 Nixon was doing well against JFK until the debate. That first televised debate showed Nixon to have a five-o'clock shadow, and that was the beginning of the end for him.
