Mitch McConnell is standing idly by as Trump undermines the foundations of American democracy.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refuses to move any legislation dealing with election security, even after Russia attacked the foundations of American democracy in 2016, according to a Friday New York Times report.
McConnell reportedly told colleagues he has no plans to move any bills that would make elections more secure, including measures to help state and local governments do so.
Describing him as a "one-man road block," the Times reports that McConnell is even blocking bipartisan measures, such as those that would improve information sharing practices between federal and state agencies and provide incentives for states to use paper ballots.
On reason McConnell won't bring up the measures: Talking about election security makes Trump feel insecure because, according to the Times, Trump "views almost any talk of Russia's success as questioning the legitimacy of his 2016 victory.

(2,768 posts)What's stopping the rest of the world from hacking the election to ensure we get back on track? There are far more governments that DON'T want us to devolve to a point where the world systems are completely upended. With there only being two real choices for governance and one of the choices having proven they are completely insane. Which one do they think is going to be backed by the majority of the world?

(449 posts)own bills. Somebody with a semblance of a spine left (it kills me here but Romney?) needs to do something here. If not this should be the lead of every Democratic add going into the election cycle: "This is not a partisan issue! Our country's election process, the linch-pin of our democracy is under attack and the GOP candidate in fill in the blank, refused to defend the country!"

(4,999 posts)This is THE impeachment issue. Dereliction of duty over not protecting our election system. Get the impeachment done quickly, then force the GOP bastards in the Senate to very publicly try to defend Trump over this. They almost certainly will defend him, but if that doesn't get the electorate motivated nothing will.
If by a miracle the Senate does convict on the impeachment, then they will have political pressure to also move on protecting the election, which is only useful if there is enough time before Nov 2020 to make enhancements to the voting system.
