The content of the calls is always familiar but slightly varied your credit is bad, your credit card is overdrawn, your student loan payments are due. Robocalls are not only annoying, but prerecorded telemarketing calls are illegal in most cases.
U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., has introduced a bill to create stronger punishments for people found to be behind illegal robocalls.
I dont know of anybody who hasnt been impacted by (these calls), said Cortez Masto, noting they are frequently used to scam the elderly. These calls are being made to the most vulnerable people of our community.
The current punishment for robocalls is a civil penalty, which has failed to deter the practice, Cortez Masto said.

(5,413 posts)I can not walk into their call center with automatic weapons because, among other things, I don't think the old pobtiac will make it over the Himalayas. but the thought has crossed my mind.
our government is sweeping up all of this "metadata" on every call, why can't someone find out where the irs scam calls are coming from and send in a seal team to stop them?
one idea that I like is to add a small charge, maybe a penny, to each outgoing call. these charges could be deducted from the monthly bill so that only people making over several thousand calls per month would pay anything. I don't make a thousand calls per month, but maybe a phone bill in the hundreds of dollars might encourage the robocallers to be more selective.

(29 posts)Sorry to hear that, dude. Were the calls came from scammers, or legit businesses? I personally used to get 5-10 calls daily from those spammers. I tried to ignore those calls. Along with time, the amount of those calls will significantly decreased. After few years, now I rarely get those calls. The most recent, few days ago, I received 2 calls within 24 hours from 760-810-4313. Like always, I ignored the calls and Googled up the number. I found some reports have been filed at https://www.whycall.me/760-810-4313.html since more than a year ago. I just blocked the number and didn't get anymore calls until today.
