We need to understand this fact:

It isn't the Democrats' inaction that prevents us from getting rid of the virus that has infected our democracy. It is, only in part, the venal and craven Republican Senators and Representative who could act if they had any value.

The real enemy is the third of the electorate who are Nazi sympathizers.

If they weren't emboldened by trump they would stay in the shadows where they would do less harm. I think it will be tense in the sort-term after a Democratic win, but they need to believe they are in the majority in order to thrive.

We cannot convince the terminally stupid, but we are the majority and we can outvote them.

There's not a simple root cause in a system with feedback.

So you have a feedback loop, with trump being the stimulus into the "nazi sympathizers" who in turn are a product of and environment (economy? racism? white priviledge? etc) plus a positive feedback look (unstable) increasing the stimulus, etc, etc.
