It was to say that Biden's chains comment was in the same league with racist stereotypes.

I think it was one of the stupider things he's said, can't we just agree that it was not smart, and move on? Why feel the need to defend something that really didn't need to be said in the way that it was phrased?

Change a few other references there about liking biscuits and gravy, about immigrants taking away your jobs, about getting your guns taken away by Democrats, about taking away your Jack Daniels and see how he likes it. If he doesn't get it, then he's that dense.

Some of them are lost causes. If this guy is over 25, he's a lost cause.

If he's younger than that, a couple of good kicks in the teeth from the people he's put up on that pedestal might wake him up.

Wed Aug 29, 2012, 02:11 AM

Of course, they never fathomed it meant something else and, when confronted with that reality, they feigned ignorance (duh) and then pretended they NEVER called themselves that word and that we were all mean, bad people for using it.

And, no, Biden was commenting against Romney's "unshackle Wall Street" comment. The group was a mixed group. I don't know what Rangel said, but, if he said that, he was wrong.

Therefore, your pot can't call Biden's kettle... um... mine are blue, but the term is black. I suppose that's racist, too, to you?

(1) Teabaggers themselves coined the term, attached themselves to it and then sold the snot out of it before they actually thought it through;

(2) You find the cartoon a little distasteful? Just a little distasteful, really?

(3) You have no right to lecture anyone here. None. Your interpretation of Biden's comment is extremely dishonest at the least. And no, I'm not deluding myself. I'm just not playing along with your bullshit.

(4) The hypocrite is you.

There are different forms of slavery, you may or may not be familiar with de facto corporate slavery but it existed in this country until not all that long ago in historical terms. Biden was referring to the return of such de facto corporate slavery.

There's even a song about it, this is the original version by the man who wrote the song.

You load sixteen tons and what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me because I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

What was your own explanation?

And why is it so important to prove that a cartoon, or a statement is racist? So somebody can be branded with a Scarlet R? Or perhaps they will just be shamed into voting for Obama?

I am kinda saddened by this seeming need to harshly judge other people. An unfunny cartoon is not all that tragic.

I guess I should apologize myself for not being able to see the obvious racism in the cartoon. So far though, those who claim to be able to see it cannot seem to describe what they see.

it purportedly offers a commentary on the uses and abuses of race in American politics generally and the current race specifically).

However, upon consideration, the phrase at the top of the blackboard seems racist in its implication that such coded racial appeals can "keep the negros (sic) hooked." The fact that that phrase is put in the mouth\pen of the Biden figure does not completely negate the possibility that the cartoonist himself believes negros can be "hooked" by clever and not-so-clever appeals to race. That to me seems racist, since it imputes attitudes to a racial sub-group solely on the basis of its race.

FWIW, I do not believe Biden's original statement was racially coded per se. Rather, I think Biden was alluding cleverly (too cleverly by half, it would seem) to Romney's use of the word 'unshackle' to talk about the effects of Romney's policies. So I take issue with the cartoonist's underlying premise and presumption about Biden's intentions.
