Earlier this week, legendary Pink Floyd guitarist and songwriter David Gilmour auctioned off dozens of his guitars and he sold them all so he could donate the proceeds to charity.
In total, Gilmour auctioned off 126 of his guitars at Christies, raking in a whopping total of $21 million.
The most notable guitar to hit the auctioneers block was the iconic black Stratocaster that Gilmour used to record Comfortably Numb, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, and Money, according to Guitar World.
The axe ended up fetching a hefty $4 million after it was purchased by the owner of the Indianapolis Colts.
The English rock star says that he will be donating every penny of the auctions sales to environmental nonprofit ClientEarth.
We need a civilized world that goes on for all our grandchildren and beyond in which these guitars can be played and songs can be sung.
James Thornton, ClientEarth CEO, said: Id like to express my deep and heartfelt gratitude to David Gilmour for this utterly remarkable gift. David has a long history of supporting charities and I am honored that he has chosen ClientEarth to benefit from this landmark auction.

(54,445 posts)I am friends with many people at Heritage Auctions, which is the third largest auction house in the world behind Christie's and Sotheby's. They also have a rare guitars division, but they have never had a $20 million guitar sale that I know of. I do know that Graham Nash is soon selling some of his guitars through Heritage, so if there are any guitar enthusiasts that missed the Gilmour sale, there is always the Nash sale! It's only 19 guitars from his collection, and it's in July, so I won't get to see them, unfortunately. Among the Nash guitars are a Gibson SG once owned by Duane Allman, an acoustic Martin once owned by Johnny Cash, and a Martin D-45 he played at Woodstock in 1969. I wouldn't mind having a couple of those to play on, although my instrument is really the 12 string, and I have had several made for me by the legendary Boo Podunavac. Those sound so special, people will have to wait for Heritage to auction the DFW collection before someone other than me gets their hands on them!
