Like so many Republicans, he has forgotten that his oath of office was to support and defend the Constitution, not Donald Trump.

Risch: What my expectation is, is that they would do what any reasonable human being would do. And that is say, look, we want national security. What's the best way to get there? Is it continue to go down the road to try to develop a nuclear weapon, to support terrorists all over the world, to violate the U.N. resolutions prohibiting from testing rockets? Is it better to go that way, or is it better to do what North Korea did and say, you know, there's a better path to follow? And if they think this thing through correctly, they will do themselves a great favor, and they will do their people a great favor. And they're — the Iranian people are just as much a victim of this as everyone in the world is.

Judy Woodruff: Well, Senator, quickly, with regard to North Korea, it's not clear, is it, that they have given up the nuclear path? Is it?

Risch: Well, they have done no more on nuclear testing. They have certainly stepped away from that. They have told us, they have told the Chinese, and they have told the world that their goal is to get to a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. That's where we all want to get. That's not where we were 18 months ago.

What the hell?? Risch is an idiot, even more so (but not much) than our Senator from the adjacent district.

Thanks for posting this, sprinkleeninow.

What a difference in auras.

His words made me want to puke. And his aura of smug, like we should be enlightened by the crap he had to say and be in awe.

I don't even recognize this guy. Who in the hell is he? I have not heard one reptilican who has not been programmed in 'I can twist you up with my words'.

Risch is notoriously thin-skinned. Former governor Cecil Andrus was easily able to irritate/annoy him with good natured pokes in the ribs during his time in state government - there are plenty of examples.

After Andrus passed, Risch thought he was finally going to get the upper hand:

Buried on page 786 of the 2,232-page spending bill was a provision adding Cecil Andrus’ name to the White Clouds Wilderness, which is in Idaho’s Sawtooth and Challis National Forests. Andrus was a four-term Democratic Idaho governor who died last year.

According to lawmakers and aides from both parties, Risch, R-Idaho was insisting on blocking the renaming. The battle played out behind the scenes, with no debate on the Senate floor, but GOP leaders held private conversations with Risch to try working something out.

Risch would not comment on the episode to reporters afterward, striding past them and brusquely saying, “I don’t have any comment.”

A government shutdown hung in the balance if the bill didn’t pass by Friday; President Donald Trump has now signed it into law, with the Andrus naming of the White Clouds intact.

Yep, little Jimmy Risch, touchy, oversensitive and petty, in action.

it had nothing to do with true empathy for others. Narcissists don't do that. It's just not in their toolbox.

Any difficulty deciding would have been from his pressure not to be seen as weak or stupid or "a loser." It would have been from a completely alien experience compared to any Trump's faced previously with entirely new variables, where it's harder to spin a misstep as success because the outcome is immediate and obvious.
