I remember hearing some sort of mini-scandal about him, but I can't remember what it was about anymore. Can anybody enlighten me?

for the Howard Schultz campaign.
I do know that he had a podcast with Elise Jordan (appears on Morning Joe frequently) that ended badly with him storming out. I think it was a question about Schultz potentially aiding in reelecting Trump if he ran that got him really defensive and annoyed.

Political analyst Steve Schmidt is no longer a MSNBC contributor because he is advising billionaire Howard Schultz on a possible independent bid for the U.S. presidency.
According to the Free Beacon, MSNBC is dropping Schmidt as a paid contributor after Schultz this week appeared to be moving forward with his presidential plans.
Earlier this week, journalist Eleanor Clift criticized Schmidt for supporting a possible spoiler in the presidential race.
And the danger is, youre going to elect the candidate you least want to elect, Clift warned on Sunday. Steve Schmidt has spent the last two years kind of apologizing for his role in getting Sarah Palin on the ticket with John McCain.

Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz reportedly postponed his decision on whether or not to run in the 2020 US presidential election in light of former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign.
Biden, who is a moderate candidate, is the Democratic frontrunner in numerous polls and believed to be running on a similar platform to Schultz, people familiar with the Schultz's strategy said in a Fox Business report published on Wednesday.
Schultz is expected not to run in the election if Biden maintains his moderate views and becomes the Democratic nominee, the sources added, according to the report. Schultz was expected to announce in the summer, but that could be delayed until 2020.
