GOP Will Block Bill Meant To Block Trump From Profiting From Presidency
Dismissing the moves as a “partisan stunt,” Republican lawmakers have set the stage to block two measures that would bar President Donald Trump from profiting from the presidency, according to The Hill.
Both bills come from the Democrat-controlled House and are part of spending legislation that would fund the government through September.
They “include provisions that would prohibit certain federal agencies from entering into contracts with or using taxpayer dollars at Trump businesses, including his hotels, golf courses and condominiums across the globe,” The Hill reported.
Senate Republicans, however, are framing the provisions as political in nature and a potential threat to the president’s security. Still, Reps. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) and Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) are tacking the the amendment to every spending bill the House considers.
