That ought to be made into a campaign commercial for Obama. Right there on their convention floor is open derision for women and Hispanics - and Puerto Ricans *are* Americans. Those mostly young, all white disrupters are the face of the future of the repubican party. They are the supporters of the candidates. They are who the candidates are working to court.
They ARE modern repubicans.
And does anyone have video of the kook who threw nuts at the CNN camerawoman and told her that was to treat animals?

(19,339 posts)Paul delegates seated were chanting "USA" to drown them out, the way they always do. I thought the gentlelady was the victim of bad timing.

(31,464 posts)It has been pointed out several times, yet these posts persist. It is unfortunate.
So, one more time; the Paulistas had begun chanting and protesting as the woman approached the stage. In an attempt to drown them out, the other delegates began their USA USA USA chant. It had nothing to do with the speaker!

That is now the truth, just like all the misquotes and lies the right wing throws at us.
This is a contact sport.

(232 posts)In politics, perception is reality. It looked like RNC delegates were shouting down a Puerto Rican at the podium, and that fits into the existing narrative that the RNC doesn't care about minorities, so that's what it is when people see footage of it.
Perception is reality, for better or worse.
It's the same reason the "you didn't build that" MISQUOTE is getting so much play by the Repblicans. It entirely fits in with their narrative about us, so it rings true to them.
Frankly, if they're not giving up their looks-truer-than-it-is nugget (you didn't build that), I don't see why we should have to give up ours.
