Our strength doesn't come from tanks

Tomorrow, Trump is going to have tanks roll through DC as part of the 4th of July celebration. That's not how America shows its values.

July 4th celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It was our citizens, our FIRST citizens, declaring the start of a new nation. Yes, war came next, and weapons were used. The day commemorates the stand our forefathers took against tyranny.

We also celebrate Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Again, these are not celebrations of the weapons of war, nor the wars that were fought. They are celebrations of the people that fought those wars and made sacrifices so the rest of us could be free.

We have always celebrated the virtues. We have always celebrated the ideas. We have always celebrated overcoming the obstacles. The greatest strength is knowing these values are our greatest strength, not something tangible, and certainly not weapons of war.
