I have seen static displays of tanks at least one air show that I remember. Other military vehicles as well over the years at air shows/family days at bases.

I can go down the road a piece and visit a museum that have several tanks, WWI and WWII.

They have history day every spring and there are 3 or 4 of those new fangled Sherman's Donnie crows about there.

This a masturbatory exercise for that fascist pig. He must have a fantasy of totalitarian parades with all the hardware driving by him whilst the Generals fawn at this side. Again fascist pig.

His bastardization of the 4th is an abomination. His static display of tanks is a common thing that the grifter is going to use as a re-election prop.

Don't fall that cr@p.

The tanks are hidden way up by the stage and that whole area is surrounded by chain link fence.

Only invited GOP donors and paid ticketholders are allowed in.

If that isn't a government paid-for political campaign rally, my entire reality has collapsed.

... because the tanks would totally destroy the streets on the parade route. Does anybody really think that Chump would pay a half million $ out of his own pocket to repave the streets? Of course not!

At least cooler heads are prevailing on this, even though Chump still gets his stupid parade at taxpayers' expense. He doesn't even care that the tanks are totally inappropriate.

a campaign rally, complete with red-hatted MAGAts. Trump can't control himself. It's supposed to be about our country's independence, but he'll have to turn it into a dog and pony show that's all about him. If there's a microphone and some cameras in front of him he will not waste the opportunity to tell wonderful lies about himself. The major networks aren't covering it, but FAUX Noise is sure to be there, and they'll slobber all over the Orange Blob as usual. I imagine Hannity will volunteer to kiss Trump's butt for the FAUX Noise viewers as well. You just know it's going to turn into a Trump rally.

Hell, I drove an M109 my damn self. Not that I want Trump to have a tank parade but I don't get it. 175mm self propelled guns and recovery vehicles, tanks of all kinds were running down the roads over there. Now many city centers had cobblestone but I never heard of anyone complaining.Trying to remember if those roads were concrete elsewhere...

made of Asphalt and baking in 90 degree heat all day back then? Asphalt will turn very soft in D.C.'s hot summer sun. I believe the treads on those tanks would tear the hell out of the roads, but I've never been near a tank in my lifetime, so what the hell do I know?

Said the specs for the roads were much tougher than here. Much deeper and more reinforcement. Probably goes back to the original Autobahn which was designed for military use.

Newer M1A1 (and A2) Abrams tanks weigh about 67 tons. Modern US city streets are just not made to bear that kind of loading. Plus, tank treads in a turn produce a much more damaging stress to road surface than rubber tires, regardless of the weight loading.

And tanks weigh an obscene amount.

Something I remember from years back was a push to get super-sized trucks onto our highways and off the railroad tracks. Somebody in Washington just does not like railroads, don't ask me why. In any case, the most salient objection was that this scheme would cause our highways and other roads to break down much more rapidly due to the weight, and that the cost would have fi be borne by states and municipalities.

50. Road wear is extremely dependent on axle weight...

Jul 2019

Obviously different factors come into play for treads, but since this touches on trucks, I thought I'd chime in with the bit of information I remember from one of my college classes. Road wear scales as about the fourth power of axle weight, so a truck with twice the weight will cause about 16 times as much wear.

Keep that in mind anytime you hear people pushing for mileage taxes instead of gas taxes. At least gas taxes somewhat account for larger weights, due to likely lower fuel efficiency....

we would get some decent roads. Here in my upstate Ny County they been piecemealing repairs especially from the tanker trucks and other heavy equipment that turn intersection approaches into rocky roads. Heavy loads and braking make trench's. The old roads used to be reinforced concrete from the 30's - 60's which stood up to the wear and tear. Here winters and salt and calcium mixed compounds caused the concrete to deteriorate. The blacktop of today isn't the same mix of the past, along for the need to speed up paving. I've seen tanks do a dash from the NG Armory to some events, mostly they took old back roads that were paved over concrete. Oh and they all had 'street tread'.
