Stop saying "they're not racist"...

Last edited Wed Aug 29, 2012, 04:26 PM - Edit history (3)

With all the gutter politics the repukes have thrown out about food stamps, saying Obama favors "European" policies, birther jokes, corporate media has said over and over that they are not racist.

It has been on full display at the convention minus the white sheets. You've got attendees pulling obscene racist antics toward an employee of CNN. The outright maneuvering of delegates from places like the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are getting better seats so that wide camera shots will show the lie that the Repub party consists of differing ethnicities. That's been highlighted by several news outlets. Then there is the incident of a Puerto Rican delegate was literally silenced by loud "USA" chants when she attempted to give her speech.

Over and over, the mantra has been "they're not racist". I've heard it said so on both MSNBC and CNN. It's almost as if they're having to work hard as hell to convince America that the repuke party isn't racist.

We know it's a lie and I think inwardly, they know it, too.

It's past time they stop insisting the repukes are not racist.

Making the Election About Race

August 27, 2012
By THOMAS B. EDSALL

The Republican ticket is flooding the airwaves with commercials that develop two themes designed to turn the presidential contest into a racially freighted resource competition pitting middle class white voters against the minority poor.

Ads that accuse President Obama of gutting the work requirements enacted in the 1996 welfare reform legislation present the first theme. Ads alleging that Obama has taken $716 billion from Medicare — a program serving an overwhelmingly white constituency — in order to provide health coverage to the heavily black and Hispanic poor deliver the second. The ads are meant to work together, to mutually reinforce each other’s claims.

Insofar as Romney can revive anti-welfare sentiments – which have been relatively quiescent since the enactment of the 1996 reforms – he may be able to increase voter motivation among whites whose enthusiasm for Romney has been dimmed by the barrage of Obama ads criticizing Bain Capital for firing workers and outsourcing jobs during Romney’s tenure as C.E.O. of the company.

The racial overtones of Romney’s welfare ads are relatively explicit. Romney’s Medicare ads are a bit more subtle.

and it's mainly just a few loonies in this country who still hold racially-backwards views. I was one of the people who wanted to believe that the only problem is them hold differing opinions than us on the left regarding how to fix the country, since they were more subtle than people like the KKK. But after thinking more about all their lies they tell about the president (ex. Obama being a socialist, Muslim, foreigner, wanting to take away guns, not obeying the Constitution, etc.) and the record amount of GOP obstruction, I'm beginning to reconsider that. I see now that they don't care about fixing the country at all--all they want are lower taxes for their rich pals, and to defeat the black dude and get him out of their White House.

It's crazy. The Republican campaign is 100% based on race at this point.
