1) It was competing with Hurricane Issac
2) There are no compelling* personalities like a Ted Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, a Bill Clinton, or a Pat Buchanan.
3) Conventions are perfunctory and lost their luster.

*by compelling I mean interesting, nothing more, nothing less...
