While this is all over twitter, so far Daily Beast has the scoop it appears. DB is typically a good source, so I'm posting it but hope to see other MSM sources confirm soonUpdated with additional MSM sources including NBC and Miami-Herald:

The billionaire pedophile was reportedly arrested on Saturday night and will appear in New York court on Monday to be charged with sex trafficking, according to law enforcement.

Billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was arrested for allegedly sex trafficking dozens of minors in New York and Florida between 2002 and 2005, and will appear in court in New York on Monday, according to three law enforcement sources. The arrest comes about 12 years after the 66-year-old financier essentially got a slap on the wrist for allegedly molesting dozens of underage girls in Florida.
For more than a decade, Epsteins alleged abuse of minors has been the subject of lawsuits brought by victims, investigations by local and federal authorities, and exposés in the press. But despite the attention cast on his alleged sex crimes, the hedge-funder has managed to avoid any meaningful jail time, let alone federal charges.
The new charges allege that Epstein sexually exploited dozens of underage girls in a now-familiar scheme: paying them cash for "massages" and then molesting or sexually abusing them in his Upper East Side mansion or his palatial residence in Palm Beach. Several employees and associates allegedly recruited the girls for Epstein's abuse, and some victims eventually became recruiters themselves, according to law enforcment. The girls were as young as 14, and Epstein knew they were underage, according to police.
Epstein's attorney, Martin Weinberg, declined to comment when reached by The Daily Beast on Saturday night.
In an era where #MeToo has toppled powerful men, Epsteins name was largely absent from the national conversation, until the Miami Herald published a three-part series on how his wealth, power and influence shielded him from federal prosecution. For years, The Daily Beast reported on Epsteins easy jail sentence and soft treatment by the U.S. Attorneys Office, which ultimately scrapped a 53-page indictment against Epstein. An earlier version of Epsteins plea deal included a 10-year federal sentencebefore his star-studded lawyers threatened to go to trial in a case prosecutors feared was unwinnable, in part because Epsteins team dredged up dirt on the victims, including social media posts indicating drug use.

This is awesome news if it's true!
Alex Acosta was the US Atty in that Florida jurisdiction who let Epstein off the hook. Too bad Acosta was punished for that.... wait... what? He's a Cabinet Secretary in Washington DC right now? Really? Gee, you would think that would be a BAD thing to have on your resume.
Anyway - hope Epstein gets some hard time in a real prison.

(15,728 posts)Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy, politically connected Florida financier, was arrested in New York on Saturday evening on sex trafficking-related charges, sources tell NBC 4 New York.
Epstein is expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan on Monday, two law enforcement officials said on a condition of anonymity.
Spokesmen for the FBI and the U.S. Attorney Southern District of New York declined to comment.
A 2008 deal ended a federal investigation that could have landed Epstein, now 66, in prison for life. Instead, he was allowed to plead guilty to lesser state charges that resulted in a 13-month jail sentence and required financial settlements to dozens of his victims. He also had to register as a sex offender.

You must be charged and convicted before you can be pardoned.
Social media discussions about Trump and his pardons are rife with errors, with hundreds of commenters believing that only people convicted of a crime can be pardoned. Must go to trial & *be convicted* before pardon can be offered, reads one such tweet. Another taunts, @realDonaldTrump hey dummy, you have to be CONVICTED OF A CRIME before you can pardon...yourself. After all, some state governors are limited in this way.
Presidents are not. Most pardons are funneled to the president through the Justice Departments Office of the Pardon Attorney, which considers applications only from people who have already served their sentences. But presidents can, and do, bypass that process. In Ex parte Garland , the Supreme Court settled the question of preemptive pardons. The justices in that 1866 case decided that while pardons could reach only past acts, the pardon may be exercised at any time after [the acts] commission, either before legal proceedings are taken or during their pendency or after conviction and judgment.
Even before Garland, President Abraham Lincoln (among others) pardoned dozens of people including alleged traitors preemptively. More recently, President Jimmy Carter pardoned hundreds of thousands of Vietnam draft evaders, including those who had not been charged or convicted. And, most famously, President Gerald Ford pardoned President Richard Nixon, who had not yet been charged with anything.

(2,698 posts)Both he and Trump were known to associate with this man, attend functions on his private island, that sort of things. It doesn't mean that either of them partook of the underage masseuses, but Trump, you will recall, said he like Epstein and that Epsteins parties included beautiful women, some of whom were on the young side.
If either Clinton or Trump actually made use of the "services" of underage girls at any of Epstein's functions, they may well be in deep, deep do-do. Although Derschowitz to have gotten "massages" from women in Epsteins' pay, there was never a report that any were underage or that anything sexual occurred during them. So maybe Trump and Clinton only went to the parties for a back rub?
Nuggets
(525 posts)RVN VET71
(2,698 posts)The right wing done did me in, Nuggets. I have no idea whether Clinton and Epstein ever got together and partied, but I do know that right wingers like Breitbart are supportive of the fabricated stories that they did.
None of the so-called "evidence" I found would persuade any but the lost souls, sadists, and POS's of the American conservative movement. It's dumb, it's obviously false, it's shameful.
But then I thought to myself, wait a minute, I didn't get this "news" from anti-intellectual organs like Breitbart. It must have drifted into my consciousness from innuendos on the "liberal" media. So my cynicism directed me at the wrong target. These days, there's so much to be cynical about that it's inevitable the cynics gun will mis-fire and hit the wrong target occasionally. In this case it did. So screw the so called "liberal" media for the low-life pandering bastards they frequently are.
So I stand (sit, actually) admonished before the world,Nugget. Whatever else might be said about Bill Clinton, his association with Jeffrey Epstein -- especially the issue of whether he ever had a massage from a teenager (perhaps one resembling a middle-aged Russian, like the one who gave Dershowitz a rub-a-dub?) with or without underpants -- clearly lacks any serious evidence.

"A New York federal appeals court on Wednesday ordered the unsealing of up to 2,000 pages of judicial documents that are expected to show evidence relating to whether New York financier Jeffrey Epstein and his partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, were recruiting underage girls and young women as part of an international sex trafficking operation.
The decision comes two days after the Miami Herald urged the court to issue a ruling in the civil case in the wake of last weeks Justice Department announcement in the federal criminal case that it would not void Epsteins controversial 2008 non-prosecution agreement."

NOV. 28, 2018
in 2007, despite substantial evidence that corroborated the girls stories of abuse by Epstein, the U.S. attorney in Miami, Alexander Acosta, signed off on a secret deal for the multimillionaire, one that ensured he would never spend a day in prison.
Acosta, now President Donald Trumps secretary of labor, agreed to seal the agreement so that no one not even Epsteins victims would know the full extent of his crimes or who was involved.
This is the story of that deal and how his victims, more than a decade later, are still fighting a criminal justice system that has stubbornly failed to hold wealthy, powerful men accountable for sexual abuse.

(20,733 posts)Bottom line: Trump's Labor Sec Acosta covered up for him 11 years ago......
By Devlin Barrett and Matt Zapotosky July 6 at 10:49 PM
Jeffrey Epstein, the well-connected multimillionaire who was sentenced to just more than a year in jail to resolve allegations that he molested dozens of young girls, has been taken into custody in New York on new charges having to do with sex crimes involving minors, a person familiar with the matter said.
The precise nature of the charges and how they differ from the previous allegations to which Epstein, now 66, pleaded guilty in 2008 could not immediately be learned. Epstein attorney Martin Weinberg did not respond to a request for comment late Saturday. A spokesman for the U.S. attorneys office in Manhattan, where Epstein is expected to appear in federal court this week, declined to comment.
His case was the subject of an investigation by the Miami Herald, which detailed how then-U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta, now Trumps labor secretary, shelved a 53-page federal indictment that could have put Epstein behind bars for life. The arrangement is now being investigated by the Justice Departments Office of Professional Responsibility, which is seeking to determine whether the attorneys involved committed professional misconduct in bringing about its close.
The person familiar with the matter said the new charges against Epstein are for conduct similar to those that brought about his plea deal. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the specific counts remain under seal.
